What's your tack container

Are you talking about something that wouldn't use a magnet? Most of the non magnet ideas that I've considered would require the user needing to "pick" the tack out of the holder. That was one of the issues I have with corks or balls.
My ideas for design with a magnet allows the tack to be removed by just sliding it out. Could probably even do it with gloves on.
I may have access to some industrial grade plastic bar (1"×1") and machine it to somewhat of a modified "H" shape. The tacks would be super secure and a 4" piece would hold up to 64 tacks...probably more than needed.
My machinist neighbor is checking his shop for the plastic.

Do you work with Kydex? You could make a hinged cover - similar to a butterfly knife - with a lanyard or snap link to clip it to your gear.

Yeah, I was thinking not use the magnet at all. Maybe the magnets are way stronger than I am giving them credit but from here it looks like the magnet would need to be carried in something else to keep from brushing them off going through the woods, etc. With the silicon, you would have to pull them out similar to a cork but the advantage being the material is way more pliable so you could give a little squeeze below the head and lift them out rather than using a finger nail to dig them out of cork. Depending on terrain, 64 should get you a long freakin ways. I figure you are plenty good enough woodsman to not need one every 20 yards like a lot of the knuckleheads around here put up.
My earlier pic was just a general, very basic idea to help me visualize some design possibilities. For me, if I actually see some rough drafts of something, then I'm more inclined to visualize a more refined design, which, in this case I have done.
I stopped at my neighbor's machine shop to discuss a few ideas and if he could help fabricate something.
I'm fairly confident that what I envision will work well.
The bad news is he just got swamped with work orders so it may be a month before he gets to it.
You guys will be the 1st to see the results.

I saw 1 of these at the store earlier and it made me think of this....obviously pellets and tack are different but maybe could reverse engineer a big bore version

Nah, that involves a lid. I have them in a pill bottle now but there has to be a better way.
I use a film canister. A piece of string through the top with a knot on the inside to hold it in place then camo tape the string to the outside of the canister. You dont have to worry about dropping the top and the camo tape quiets the tack noise. It's an easy flip with the thumb to get the top off.

Sorry. I ain't buyin' it. Is the film canister "workable"? Yeah, I guess so. But is it optimal? Nope. I tried it this season and hated that I had to try to pluck tacks out of a little container.
If you find the film canister satisfactory and you like it, I'm certainly not trying to get you to change. You do what you do.

I'm surprised that tacks for hunting have been around for decades and no tack manufacturer has developed a one-handed, bomb-proof dispenser.

Another thought is some sort of something like a modified handgun magazine. Spring loaded and just push each tack out just like unloading ammo from a magazine.
