Where Do Platforms Go From Here?

A platform with the same foot print as the predator, lighter weight, with 1lb sticks from same company to facilitate integral mounting to the platform.

Just a crazy idea:
What about a lone star with the tree trunk in the center?
A ring of 5 big, (foldable?) triangle-shaped steps, that can be arranged to 5 star-shaped platform around the tree?
Feet would have contact to No. 1 and 3. The edges facing to the feet would be +- in line, 360° maneuverability.
Estimated dimenions: edges facing to the feet 6-7’’ , tip 1’’, contactpoints facing to the trunk 4’’ , height 6’’.

ROS is to "minimalist" for me and a predator is too much. 2 or 3 small surface area like mini pursuit platforms would be sweet.

I'm biased and really enjoy my soft platform. It's a little bulky but it's real light so it's not bad to carry. Somebody please copy it. I don't wanna have to build another 1. I'll supply my own stuffing...I just need the sack sewn
Weldy and @MattMan81 how far off the tree would you guys think? I just got a pursuit, that's about 6 inches deep, (8 wide? I forget) I'm thinking at least 8" , maybe 10-12". I'd like to be able to stand comfortably, my feet are right about a foot long, coincidentally.

Rough dimensions? I think a predator is like 12x12 but didn't check.

Honestly, cost will be the biggest change. Cost will go down as the supply increases to meet demand. Designs will become lack luster as there is only so much you can do. All designs are getting better so there is less massive improvement from one to the other.

Unfortunately new platforms costs will go up as carbon fiber platforms enter the market, which will actually push Aluminum platforms price down as many look to sell old models.....at least that's my prediction.

Also, designs haven't become lackluster per se, the ONE common design certainly has, but there's certainly others on the way.

A few clarifications here.. I didn't say designs have already become lackluster. I said they will become lackluster.

I think we agree on the platform costs going down in the future. Carbon will come out, Aluminum will go down, carbon will be out for awhile and then it will go down as more come out.

Well Carbon and Inflation will keep things going up for a while yet until things change, and until the US makes carbon easier to manufacture and legally able to work with!
Yes, prices will go down but really only when new more expensive things take their place like how it happens with Bows, cars etc....

Not to derail the thread but what do you mean about legally able to work with?

Anyone can manufacture carbon and composite materials here like Easton does(so I've heard), but the highly trained technician standards, expensive scrap, work environment, expensive moulds and strict restrictions on materials and resins etc... like Ilama said above for obvious safety reasons, cause many to purchase carbon or manufacture it abroad.
There is a lot of red tape as well to have a carbon composite facility, and probably even more challenging in restrictive state like California.

Maybe not much left to do with platforms, but potentially something with "seats". Separate seats, plays off the JX3 type of idea, or a detachable seat that would slide onto the platform post.

There might be some room for improvements to ideas like the Rut Roost https://outonalimbmfg.com/rut-roost-platform/

I could see some more people experimenting with bosun seats. IIRC @cedar paul has a Petzl Podium with a JX3-esque standoff, and there's that new "freedom saddle" that looks like a hybrid saddle/bosun seat. Really not sure how much room there is for innovation there, but some clever person will show us.

What's this "freedom saddle" you speak of?

My combo with a back band is very comfortable for long hall. The combo of the Tengu with the Podium marries nice and can be clipped for walking so you don't have a mess flopping around. Having a seat that removes hip pinch and spreads the load over your fanny is a nice feature. The comfort, and deployability are the strong points for me with less fiddle factor to adjust . I am very fond of a central bridge less connection that allows me to switch between climbing systems effortlessly. It is pairing well with a version of 2tc I am in the process of refining with a rappell component of course.

That makes my butt hurt. Like taking bleachers up a tree lol
I'm not so sure about that. I bought a couple of the Notch Floating D saddles when they were on sale and they have a semi-rigid seat for butt support and it is super comfortable. I would use it more for hunting but its a little bulkier to wear into your spot and/or to place in a pack but it could easily be compresion strapped to your pack for the walk in and out.
