Why don't yall 2TC?

I've been watching some 2TC videos - its definitely something I want to try this season. So far I've only done DRT(great for presets) and cranford ezy climb steps(not fond of them).

Hypothetically speaking could you 2TC with just two ropes? No prussik's, foot loops, or other equipment? For example, could you simply use a regular bridge tether and have your foot tether simply girth hitch the tree with a bowline knot for your foot?
That setup will work unless you have limbs to pass, then you need a way to attach your bridge to your foot tether so you can move your main tether above the limb safely

Super generous of you guys. Thanks!

BTW, the difference between a 4 wrap Shwabisch and 5 wrap shwabisch was huge. 4 wraps slipped to the stopper (reduced the end force to 740lbs thought). 5 wrap didnt budge. I only mention that because some force can be reduced by knot selection and set up...not that I would suggest anyone count on their stopper knot!

I've had my stopper knot save my bacon a couple times while practicing stuff!

What is the ideal 2TC setup after all these pages. I might try it. Which setup will likely cause me to leave one sticking

This is about the best set up I have found. It is very simple. It consists of a 14 foot piece of 11.5mm Bluewater Assault line with a Ropeman 1 for adjustment. The foot tether is 14 feet of 11.4mm Predator with a Blakes Hitch for adjustment and a Distel hitch with a wire gate carabiner for crossing limbs and as a backpack hanger. I added a small length of rubber tube to keep the foot loop open. The tube has reflective tape at each end to better see in the dark.

I use a ring of steps at height. The whole thing fits in a backpack and I can climb some very big trees with this kit. I 2TC up and down. It's easy once you get the hang of it.

I used this all last season and it is about as streamlined and functional as I can make it.

I built one out of amsteel but the hitch is the problem with amsteel. It either dont hold or it locks up. Has anyone found a hitch that works with amsteel?

I added a loop at the end of the top tether that gets clipped back into the carabiner in case anything failed with the Ropeman.

I built an all amsteel set early on but abandoned amsteel for the top tether due to that concern. I went to Canyon C-IV and a Kong slyde for the top tether. A kong duck would probably be better. I do really like amsteel for the foot tether paired with a section of rubber air hose for a footrest.

There's not a cookie cutter answer for that unfortunately, except for the one you are most comfortable with. The best we can do remotely is offer advice based on what you have that you can repurpose for it and how well those items work out for you. Do you currently rappel? If so what does your rappel rope consist of? Do you currently possess two pieces of rope long enough to be used as tethers? again what kind? Hitches? Mechanical Devices? Do you have a separate platform or do you use your one stick?

Super cool giveaway fellas! I have been reading this thread a few pages at a time for the last month or so. I spent all of last season one sticking, and I think this is a very viable way to get up and down the same trees I have already been climbing just a little easier/safer.

Does a purpose built foot loop/stirrup improve the experience quite a bit over a loop tied into the rope w/ a bowline or similar?

I have repelled for years using a madrock and 8 mm rope.
I use an EWO stick and platform on the stick. I usually use a jx 3. I use 3 squirrel steps on big trees
I have had this setup for a few years. I thought I would try 2TC

Ok, you could utilize the 8mm rope and Madrock for your top tether.

Substitute the foot tether for the EWO stick to advance up the tree.

You will want to take shorter advances, somewhere in the 18 inch range. Don't try to get three feet in one move.

I'm not sure how the JX3 will work for 2TC. If you can easily stand up and sit back down in it, it should work fine. I'm just not that familiar with how the JX3 works before you deploy it at hunting height.

In any case, try all this low and slow and if anything feels off or unsafe, stop and evaluate.
