Why don't yall 2TC?

Last weekend I set out on a mission to find the worst tree to 2TC...

I'm just now getting around to posting it here. :unamused:
The tree was too messed up for ropes so I just plain ol' climbed it…
I'm confused... Did you 2TC this? What do you mean by too messed up for ropes?

My plan was to 'enter' that tree into the contest that hasn't happened yet... lol

I spent probably 4 minutes trying to get my tethers around the tree but it was too big around at the bottom and I'm too short to reach up to the first Y.
So no, I didn't 2TC it.

I'll find another 'bad' tree . Maybe later today???

He just proved you don't need anything but a tether / lineman's rope for climbing gear. Hell, you may not even need that if you don't care about being attached to the tree while climbing.

Simply look for the worst tree to be in, grab branches ( or whatever ), climb, and set your tether at height.

You need anything more than that? You be a girlie-man.

Ok. First, thanks for taking the time to reply.

Second. I'm adopting the items and techniques of SRT/rappelers/one-stickers/etc. guys. But I'm not going to do any of that soon.
And. I'm close to 60yo. I'm still strong and spry enough, but I know this isn't going to last a whole lot longer for me. Maybe 10 years or so??

I'm about saving weight and keeping things simple while hunting public land w/o doing the higher risk ( perceived by this older guy ) climbing techniques.

I’m quite sure I’m not alone in my situation and thought process.

I'm currently using sticks and a platform to get up and down trees while using a saddle. All in - that's close to 14lbs.

THEN, I read how some of you are using the upper part of a Lone Wolf or Summit climber and I'm thinking I'll use the platform of my OpenShot. I'm very certain I can make that work for the majority of my hunts. My complete OpenShot climber with all the trimmings weighs close to 20lbs, so using only the platform means I'll carry closer to 12lbs of climbing equipment.

NOW, I'm reading here & watching posted videos of using two tethers! Not only does that look easy enough, ( my son and I are going to practice this technique in a few hours today ) it should save another 12lbs

If this works, I'll only be carrying 18lbs of gear + bow!
And since my current workout is to carry about 45lbs in a backpack, start the Tracker on my OnX app, walk 3 miles out on trails, then three miles back. ( I'm currently getting that 6-mile hike done in 1 hour and 43 minutes. I'm sweating pretty good, but not out of breath at all )

18lbs will be nothing! And I'm not worried about carrying 5 biners instead of one or two.

If any of you see more holes in my method and reasoning on keeping things simple and light, post up. I’ll gladly take it into consideration and decide for myself if it works for me or not.
OK! I finally got my butt out into the woods this morning!

I attached both amsteel loops to the prusik knot of a simple girth-hitched tether w/ a carabiner. Even though it spun with a mind of its own, the step worked fantastically no matter if the teeth were facing the tree or not. I think I'll find something soft and fuzzy to wrap it up in so it doesn't make noise when tapping against the tree while moving the tether up and down.

This was only my second attempt with the 2TC method and I like what I'm experiencing. I know I'll get more efficient at it.

I'm REALLY excited to know I can get WAY back into the public land areas carrying A LOT less weight!

Center Punch, where do you live???

I've got soo many tethers that would make a better/EASIER foot tether for you!
Ditch that silly flat-footed thing and make a simple loop...

That's the beauty of 2TC! "Less is more"!
Missouri

I've tried the simple-looped aiders. Too unstable for me. Never got the hang of it.

That silly flat-footed thing eliminated the pain-in-the-ass learning curve for me. I'm now instantly 2TC climbing and loving it!

I have no problem using a 1” tubular webbing loop or just a loop formed by the tether rope but I used 1.75 webbing Anderson sling type thigh loop for my foot loop and it was smooth. Like a Cadillac. I stand by recommending something like the CGM footloop for beginners until they get their confidence and stability. It’s just a little extra bulk.

Man, I wish it was easy to add videos here...

I could add some really cool $h!t just about every day!
In the dark I'm testing different foot tethers and I keep coming back to my 'Super Mega Favorite Tether'.

It's soo much better than a bunch of extra stuff that isn't even nessasarry!

Ha pictures work almost as good!!! I’m really close to showing my new tether hitch, just making one more adjustment and then I will share it! I’m really liking it not sure what everyone else with think, I can just go by my own thoughts and experiences, people will just have to try it for themselves and form their own opinion!

Gunner's got a good point! And it's another great feature of just using the Maverick hitch rather than any carabiner or soft shackle. No stored knots. Also you don't have to remove the hitches on your rope if you pull the rope down and your release line up with a preset tied to it!

Yes, but my problem with the Maverick hitch on a preset (unless I’m too dumb to figure it out is that you need almost double the footage of rope vs the limb you pass over (if the limb is 25’, you need about 45’ to be able to access both ends of the rope to tie the hitch. If I just tie a figure 8 or Alpine butterfly, I can get by with about 30’because the knot can be tied near one end of the rope and will feed through using my preset paracord line as a rope extender.

Or you can use John's 'houdini' rigging.
It is simpler to have a rope long enough to reach both ends to the floor like a DSRT(aka JRB) but a paracord preset or a pull down string is sufficient as well.
The other thing is that, except for a spliced eye, any knot to make an end loop will be as much as a Maverick knot, except it packs easier because you don't store its knotted form.
