I want to add kayak access to my plan this year & looked at a Perception 115 from ****s, had decent reviews & some good YouTube review videos. But I’m totally new to this & any input is welcomed! As many mods as everyone does on here I’m sure somebody has a sweet setup....

Are you only wanting it for hunting access or other activities like fishing too? I have a perception pescador and just bought a vibe sea ghost 110.

My main focus is access, & getting a deer out.... I’ll skip fishing for now. I just have some cool spots that I could come in the back door.

I’m trying not to go over the top budget wise. I guess I should mention I’m 6’6” 260, so I need something stable.

NuCanoe is a great option. I'd also look at Native Watercraft and Hobie. YouTube is your friend in this case.

Have you considered a cheap fiberglass or aluminum canoe? That would probably be my choice if I only needed it to access locations.

I wouldn't consider a canoe unless I was able to beach the canoe every time. The new canoe is the most stable platform (outside a john boat) I have ever used for getting in/out in water while kayak is floating on the water (i.e. is not beached). I hunt a lot of deep creeks and rivers with tall banks - stability is a must. A nucanoe can easily handle up to 500 pounds. They are a bit heavy (75 pounds I believe) and they cost a lot - but to me there is no better hunting kayak made. I can float in as little as 5-6 inch deep water. it is also a lot quieter then most canoes and are easy to modify to your own liking..

I was initially looking at everything small boat related, but didn’t want to be limited beaching it. I also wanted something super stable, I have limited experience & didn’t want to frequent a cold weather swim. A few of the places I’m considering are marshy, the other is a reservoir with real shallow coves.

x3 on the NuCanoe Frontier, its by far the most stable not to mention it can haul up to 650lbs I believe. I finally picked on up this fall and ill be putting it to work this year.

Nucanoe is definitely better than a traditional canoe. But it's also 4x or 5x the investment. If all I needed was water transportation, I'd probably spend $300 on a craigslist canoe as opposed to $1500 on a Nucanoe.

But I'm not a good resource for this. I went with a top of the line Hobie Pro Angler. However, I fish extensively out of mine. The OP doesn't want to fish from his boat.

I think a traditional canoe could definitely work.

So I just should’ve stuck with you’re original comment & tapped out then! I’ve looked at everything mentioned plus some other ones. I’m leaning towards a less than $500 option. I can get a lesser new one or decent Craigslist one. I’m thinking long term & want to see if I really like this method for access or if it’s worth it. If it’s a keeper I can always upgrade later & keep this one for my son or sell it to fund the upgrade. I’ve been guilty of researching & then going way over budget, then selling or trading down the road. I appreciate all the feedback! I would also like to see pics of your rigs if you have them. Are there any specific things I should also consider for hunting out of a kayak?? I know that’s a loaded question, but I think saddle hunting is so perfect for a kayak. Just wear your saddle & strap in a bow & pack.......

I hunt out of a 350 kayak a lot of times. but it also dumped me in the water once. I have a video on youtube of it. It is great for far remote places and gets the job done. It doesn't carry much over 350 pounds so you will need an inflatable to get a deer out.
