2016 setups and pics thread

flingin.....is that a camera arm you have your seat pad hanging off of? looks pretty sturdy whatever it is...

Yep. It's the XOP pad that comes with the platform. I use that instead of knee pads and it works great.

ClimbRight aluminum spurs with ultralight pads

That is the core of my system this year. Using the same Yale Bandit tether and Ropeman 1 I did last year

For rappelling down I am using 8mm rope with a Black Diamond ATC Sport

Rappel rig. I use a secondary, shorter bridge for the ATC with two spliced eyes. It just stays hooked up to the loops on the SD. When I need it, just hook the ATC and go. The reason I like the shorter 2nd bridge is so I can transfer my weight to that and then unhook my main bridge/tether before rapell.

That rig looks nice but tell me about your release . I use a 3 finger Shootoff.

Shootoff four finger. Best releases made IMO. Since switching to a thumb for hunting I have been making much better shots on game. I practice for a surprise release all year and focus mostly on aiming and the shot just seems to go off on it's own. There's no better feeling aiming at the kill zone on a deer and the shot just happening without thinking about it!

X2! I made the switch last year and will never go back. They are hard to find used and usually sell very quickly. I had to buy 2 before I went to Colorado last year. Just in case I lost or broke one.

I also put a larger thumb knob on them both.

If you are looking for gloves that work good with thumb releases, I can't recommend the Sitka fanatic glove enough. Both thumb and forefinger are cut out.

The Fanatic gloves are exactly what I use. I also keep a wrist strap release in my pack in case I drop the Stan. Hasn't happened yet but I'm prepared if it does lol.

How are you retrieving your rappell rope once you're on the ground..?

How does the paracord free the line from the biner? I'm still so confused on the rope retrieval.

pull on the blue paracord and it pulls the loop/biner down to youUntitled.png

I've had this exact setup tangle more than once. It's kind of annoying to put the spurs back on and climb up to free it. I guess that's life.

In flinginarrows pics, even though he has now changed to a locking caribeaner...it looks semi-side loaded to me, wouldn't that reduce the load rating...? Or am I seeing things wrong..?
Has anyone used a delta ring in place of the ' biner

I wouldn't think it was side loaded but if I'm wrong someone please tell me. I thought side loading was putting force on the minor axis but I could be wrong. I plan to switch to a screw link next season.

Im probably over thinking it looking at it...just seems funny to me for such a simple system attatchment that unhooks so easy could be a safe anchor to descend from..watching a few rappel videos and they always seem to do a back up anchor point.I'm not trying to bash your system in any way. Have you had any slippage using it around the trunk only or do you always pick a tree with a limb as a stopper to keep any slippage from happening...?

Which photo are you referring to?

Ultratech with a link.
Ok. I rappeled on ultra tech a couple times. I've been looking around online and I'm not sure if ultratech is meant for rappelling. I really can't find any info to say either way. I did find the ultratech to be a much more supple rope. This makes it harder to pull down, it is more likely to get hung up. Last time out I took my 9mm sterling htp, and everything worked much better. I really like rappeling down with the grigri2 (needs 9mm rope) also, I feel much safer than just using the atc. Especially because it was like 30 degrees out and my hands were getting cold and the likelihood for making a mistake just goes up.
