BassboysLLP's ultimate platform

I'm not sure what the guys are working on for their platform, but after noodling around for a bit, watching video's of how guys move around the tree, but yet not using a saddle or platform yet myself, this is an idea I came up with. It would need tweaking I am sure, FEA would tell where its not strong enough, due to standing out on an edge, etc... It would need a leveling screw, maybe more teeth, ect... I liked the idea of the angled portions for when you are off to a side, you have something to wedge yourself against. Its all together possible that the other designs (old LW seat, etc) are simpler, and maybe work better. Anyways, I just thought I'd spend an couple of lunch hours playing around. tube and casting came in at .7lb for aluminum. no hardware, main center ribs are .125 wide, outer ribs are .25, and a couple of heavy xsec. where some of the ribs meet.

WOW...that's some incredible work!!! I really like where you're headed with this design.

Someone needs to get this guy on the development team!!!

I'm just a guy that likes to tinker. I do much more complicated stuff at work, but I also have a couple of eng. that give me some direction. wish I could show what I'm really working on, but you guys will see that stuff in a couple of years. :)

If it's anything like you just posted, I don't know if I can control myself! Lol

Looks great to me. Sign me up. Lol

How is he not on the design team?

the main thing about the klemz is how easy it sets up. strap it to a tree with the platform in the up position.....then push the platform down with your foot and its solid.
yeah you don't want to add too much. somewhere between the klemz and the LW assassin is the goldilocks platform
hey theres a name....goldilock

If I'm reading the dimensions correctly this concept model isn't oversized.

Cool design. I'm surprised how light it is. How much force did you apply to it with the FEA?

FEA, haven’t done any yet, we have a whole dept. at work that does it, so I need one of them to give me a little help on setting up the file. The depth of the casting is 1/2” which might be a little thin.

My bad. I misread your original post. My gut feel playing with Solidworks FEA with a ME in my office is that is a little too lean. At the same time, I think the design Ernie et.al. is working on may be a little too robust. But in the end it needs to support hunters big and small.

My biggest concern with the ears sweeping around the trunk is accommodating all trees. Those may get in the way with some setups (trees with radial limbs, multitrunk, etc.)

I set it up to clear an 18” dia tree, I can tweak a little tomorrow, I was also looking at how the LW stands outer rib gets thinner the further out you go, my thoughts on the wing out would be do you have a spot to kind of hook your feet when off to the side. I was also trying to fit it so a set of size 13 boots would fit.

True, but if you load one of those ears too much from the backside (leaning too far), the platform will kick out. The ears give you a lot of leverage to disengage the platform

That looks awesome man!

You could add a lot of stability if you increased the number of teeth engaging the tree.

Now that is why it is good for the guys that use the stuff to design it. I know what my stand is like, but not having used a platform for a saddle, I didn’t realize how it would react. I guess you could use a 2nd strap, but I think the main idea would be to keep it as compact/light/quiet/etc.... for setup. Like everyone else, wish I knew what you guys where working on, but that would be letting the cat out of the bag to soon.

Onward we go.

Just noticed your teeth comment, I was tweaking it for more teeth right befor I left work. I had 10min. Of down time. Ideas are going off in my head. “Light bulb”

Also, if you added a second versa button to the bottom you could give your ears a bit more utility. you would be able to load the platform from the backside. even straddle the tree.

I like the concept. A couple of the initial thoughts that come to my mind:

-Per Bassboys comment, if you apply pressure to the tips of the wings, which are on the tree side of the pivot point, there could be risk for kickout
- Most of the casting guidelines I've seen recommend wall thickness consistency for good material flow. I like tall and thin, as long as it can remain manufactutable. I'm not sure how well the material will flow through all of the sharp corners and 2:1 wall thickness stepdowns.
