Mine look similar. However, I sewed the buckles/straps to each side of the pads. On my old pads I got tired of holding the strap with one hand and tightening with the other. Sewing the straps solved my problem.

Mine pack up well. I'm going to make some webbing straps and clips to hold them in this position.

I’d love to see how that is done? How much sewing is involved?

Is that a 2” strap instead of the 3” it comes with? Are those load bearing buckled or just cheap off the shelf?

How are you guys getting the foot strap buckle to stay tight? I used strap works buckles but while climbing they would loosen up.

I will hunt with mine one, Buckingham aluminum gaffs with big pads.. I used elastic to keep the gaff covers attached.

I'm interested in this answer also. I know that there isn't much pressure on the strap when standing but am worried if one gets stuck and I snatch it out I will be standing there with one spur on and the other hanging out of the tree.

I switched to cam buckles. Had the same problem.

It is 2”. 3” webbing and hardware is quite a bit harder to find. They are just standard off the shelf buckles. There is very little pressure actually on the buckles when you put them on.
I will probably sew the top 2” strap to the pads at some point just to make it easier to deal with. In all honesty, an over center buckle would probably pull all the slack out that guys are complaining about above.
I haven’t had any slack develop in the 2” strap, but I did originally have major slack issues in the 1” strap on the bottom. My solution to this was to run the strap under the spike instead of around it. This captures your foot much better, but will no doubt increase the wear on that strap. Timely replacement on that strap will be necessary, but that is super simple with no sewing on that strap.... cut, squeeze through the eye, add buckle and done.

How do you guys navigate around limbs when you climb? I'm new to spurs and I feel pretty good until I have to unhook and go around limbs. I've only tried climbing twice, it's a lot tougher than I thought it'd be.

I place my tether as a secondary Lineman belt above the limb. Then I keep going.

I had a very tough time getting used to spurs. It took me 3-5 practice sessions before I felt comfortable. I almost said "screw it" and sold them more than once. Now, I'm so glad I stuck it out. They are fantastic and EASILY my favorite way to climb.

That's encouraging, thank you! I'm going to stick it out, I love the idea of it. I've got to practice a lot! Didn't think about the other belt. I'm also going to look into rappelling down. Thanks again!

I have two identical linesman belts specifically for climbing past limbs. Whichever is not in use at hunting height gets rigged as a tether.

I am going to work a couple days this week with the spurs so I am confident before hunting out of them next week.
