The concern is that no one uses it for that and Samson doesn't list that in the applications.so whats the concern about the Samson ultra tech? Being the technora stuff it should be perfect for rappel yeah?
ive got a mini 8 and the 9mm htp almost seems like too much friction to me. Only reason I want to try an 8mm
Maybe stupid question but what kind of knot is that?

I just sent them an email so I'll let you guys know what they say.Would be worth a call or email to them and ask. You'd find out pretty quick if it's OK or not. What we do is a little different than most we aren't rappelling over 100'. We are going 35' at the most.

The gri gri is great, I think it is perfect for us. It is a little bit bigger than an ATC or one of the other ascenders (but it is still pretty small), but I think it makes coming down so much safer (I'm not messing with an autoblock using the other devices). With the gri gri I can put all of my weight onto the device, and get myself into a position I feel comfortable with to go down without worrying that if I let go I'm going crashing down. I rappeled down with the atc one night while it was in the 20's and really windy. My fingers started to get cold just having them out to get the rappel gear in order. I could definitely see myself losing the grip on the rope or something bad with cold hands like that. With the gri gri I don't have to worry about that.I think I'm going to try that GriGri
