I am in suspense! (Pun intended) Really looking forward to the new platform. Just a thought, you could start a new thread called the Stepp Ladder Platform Reveal! Then we could all put our name in a hat and the winner (me) would get the new platform shipped to them before it can be bought! Then they can tell everyone how easy and wonderful it is! (Especially since you have found a way for the platform to not only be light and stable but also to drag your deer out for you!)

Rope underneath the legs is the first thing to make sure of.

Make sure you are running the rope through the correct portion. It is easy to put them in the wrong spot when you are learning. This video should help:

@Swampfox I have built two of these boards with the second one having 1.25" holes and it still doesn't lie completely flat. A video explaining and showing how you got this to work for you would be great! I wonder if 1/2" plywood would work better for this?

No pressure but have you made a video explaining and showing how you got this to work for you? I can keep reaming this out but it still seems as though the 3/4" board may be to thick.. i'm also wondering if this isnt working for me because there is a difference between the old jim stepps and the new wildedge stepps?

I haven't got the board to lay completely flat either, there is still some angle towards the tree. However I have got it tight enough to to keep from pulling away from he tree like others were having trouble with.

I was trying to post the video last week on the YouTube but got frustrated with my old account and getting locked out. It's still the old low light video but if you want I'll text it to you.

We tried making it as light as possible and spent so much time on the weight issue that we were not able to make it strong enough. We are now messing around with different metal gauges to really shave a few more ounces off but most importantly it will be strong! All you guys who are weight conscious I have another alternative that may take a little longer and more money but it will happen in the future.

How’s the process coming along? Is there any hope for this season?

That is a common problem new users have and it is very easy to fix! The KEY to proper installation of the SteppLadder is to get the Stepp tight to the tree and let the tension out of the rope until you can pull the stand offs up above the rope as far as you can go and then cam it over so that the stand offs sit a the same plane of the rope or above it! Not sure that would hold up to side loading. But worth a try.


I had a few post where I got the board to work very well, only issue was the noise of the wood on the bark. I just never pursued it further to fix the noise issue though.
