Had a rough start this morning, went to an area that I've had good luck with gobbles early on(military base), I know roughly where they roost but not enough to get into a position for fly down.
I started hearing gobbles early and had to move to get closer because they were on the other side of a creek on a small ridge. I circled around and got over there in time to have 3 I think at one point gobbling all around me, I picked one and moved in, quick run and gun setup with the saddle and bow, no blind, oh I did have one hen decoy. As soon as I started calling he shut up! I know I'm not the best caller but I've had some success getting responses. I did hear some hens but oddly enough not in that direction. I waited an hour or so then moved on. At this point the woods were silent. I slowly walked in dispair back to the truck.
Ate a pbj and went back out, setuo on a small ridge and started calling, oh funniest part was right after setting up I broke into a coughing sneezing fit, lol can't believe I saw anything. Clearly you can see I wasn't that pumped with myself at this point. I kept calling working through all of my calls(2 pots and a box, not that confident with the mouth yet and I keep screwing them up, so I didn't have the one I like). Oh I had 2 hen decoys out.
About 30 minutes later, I had a nice tom come in but he hung up around 40 yard, he never said a thing and after a little strutting he slowly walked away. I tried excited yelps and cuts then some purring but he wasn't having any of it. Not sure how far you shotgun hunting folks would take a bird but 40 is def out of my turkey bow range.
I'm curious what you guys would have done in that situation, or have done that works. Oh I was in a blind. I think I might bring some string to move one of the decoys a little.
Thoughts?
Anyway it was a cool hunt, and I can't wait to get back out there!

All cured and on the wall. Decided not to put it on a backing. Didn’t want to take from the colors and it would’ve been heavy as heck to build something that big. Really pleased with how this came out being the first time I’ve done a full cape. I’ve done different fan mounts over the years but I really like this.
Thanks for the kind words. I try to show Off my accomplishments at home in way that isn’t gotty. My wife isn’t to keen on dead stuff adorning the walls so I turn them into wall art or furniture pieces for the wall. That looks great! I've always wanted to try one of those.

Mines not as fancy but still love how it turned out! Simple DIY kit you can buy on eBay.
Nothing wrong with that. Nice bird too

I like that shadow box. I used to like doing fan mounts but I ran out of room quick in the garage so I started using the shotgun shell and putting the beard in it. Id like to do one nice mount of a shadow box some year thoughMines not as fancy but still love how it turned out! Simple DIY kit you can buy on eBay.
