Working out

Before my two kids I used to do the originals, but not anymore. Thankfully my office put a small workout room in the building so I go in at lunch and do p90x3 since it's only 30 minutes.

I really like the races because it gives me something to motivate my training. If you are interested, there are a ton of 5k versions to get your feet wet

M- treadmill 2 miles/ weights ( chest ,triceps)
T- treadmill 3 miles/ weights( back, biceps)
W- treadmill 3 miles/weights ( shoulders, core)
Th- no treadmill/ weights( legs)
F- treadmill 1 mile/ weights ( chest, triceps)
Weekends- OFF

When hunting season starts- the workouts can wait ;)

Huck - nice split mine is pretty close

M - Chest/ Tri / Ab
T - Back / Bi / calves
W - Shoulder / Ab
T - chest/bi/Tri/calv
F - Legs/Ab
SA/Sun - scout/hike (rest)

Treadmill 20-30 min (2.5-4 miles each weekday based on what I have left)

Not a self proclaimed meathead I've only been in this routine since mid-Dec and its honest closer to 3-4 days per week but above is my goal. Also, hate the running but Marine Corps requires me to keep my endurance for fitness testing so it's a nice added benefit. I also shoot an indoor round 2-3 times per week.

As for time I often have to get up at about 4am to get this in before work but I feel the best I have in years

Thanks Prill! It's a good efficiency schedule. I don't lift really heavy but I increase when my body suggests it. Just trying to continuously get stronger and healthier. I understand the issues with running. However, once I get my pace set then it feels great. And there's certainly plenty of benefits to working on the cardio.

Semper if prill. U r still in corps?
Yes still in the Reserves. The second fitness test of the year only requires .5 mile (sprint) so come July I'll mix my cardio into more of a run/swim mix and incorporate more hiking.

I hunt in PA on a mountain and although it isn't the rockies I like to be able to switch stands mid day with my gear and not break a sweat or sound like a smoker with emphysema as I trudge through the woods.

I love strength and power training. I've been contemplating joining a CrossFit gym just to get access to proper olympic lifting equipment again. Haven't been able to really get after it with iron plates. Used to be pretty decent for my weight. Well, I was better at jumping in track and field, which was the reason I started that training. As it stands, I do more powerlifting exercises and a mix of gymnastics - moreso in the warmer months when I can use my rings in the garage. Occasionally I run and bike, but I hate cardio lol. Maybe I should sign up for a race to force me to train outside more.

I have a buddy at work that signs up for some kind of "challenge" gym. It costs him 500$ for a challenge. Last time it was lose 20# he had 6 or 8 weeks to do it. He has free access to the gym, trainers, and diet counselors. At the end of the time period if he completed the challenge he gets the $500 back. If not they keep it. Talk about motivation.

I'd take the challenge.
I'm sure they have to have strict monitoring in place or other wise people could add/lose weight like fighters/wrestlers. An extra gallon or two of water on the front (+8 or 10) and a few days in the sauna drinking less water on the back make it more achievable haha (-5 or 10)

I play hockey twice a week and occasional weight lifting. At age 50 it is hard to lose weight. My goal at the beginning of the year was to lose 20 lbs. I only have 30 more to go :D

I lost 30 lbs last year. I've put 5 back on already.
So this year I'd like to do the same.

Then I'm back to my "sustainable ideal" weight. In other words, I won't feel bad enough to lose any more.

I'm impressed guys (well with some of you!)

The baby weight seems to be a theme... I put on 10 with ours. I'm down a few but still working on it.

During the winter I go to the gym and walk/run as many mornings as I can motivate myself to go before work. But I'm an outdoor junky and can't wait for spring. I keep telling the baby as soon as she can fit in the baby backpack we're going hiking. I will only take her on hikes on the old mining roads for now, but I love nothing more than hiking and scouting off the beaten path. I could do that all day every day if time permitted. I'll also mountain bike and run during the summer to try to keep the weight off. I like to eat so I have to stay active to keep it off. This year I want to try to work some more upper body in. I love shooting big bodied deer but they're a lot of work to get out of the woods!

Just remember Mike,

We're all different and that's one of the countless things we have in common! ;)

I put on about 15 lbs after my wife had my son. It's tough but once that night time routine remotely normalizes you just have to re-start the habit and get back to it. He's going to be 3 next month and still gets up so it never really "gets back to normal"

I think all this workout talk might spark an iron man competition in one of the camp grounds at the Wayne National Forest -
Hopefully we get the opportunity for the rubber to meet the road and get to pull out someone's 200lb booner!

Haha. yeah, I came up with reading here one day. I saw what felt like 10 posts in a row that started with "everyone's different"...
I thought about how silly that is. Of course it is true. But on this site... we aren't all that different on a worldly scale. We are a bunch of American men (mainly) who not only like to hunt... but hunt white tail deer with bows, from a few strips of cloth... If there was ever a time when "everyone is homogeneous" this site is closer to that, then to everyone being different.

Anyway... I then made a quote that sounded quasi-real as my own inside joke about SH.com Now, Huck has busted me. No longer an inside joke for only me.

My weight is always up and down. According to the doctor (a few years ago when I went) it varies way too much. But it's like this: I quit hunting for about ten years a while back. During that time, I was working a management job and ballooned up to over 310# . When I finally realized what I was becoming, I very quickly dropped 100#( like within two to three months).I did this another time after I broke my back -i gained a lot then lost sixty pounds quickly when I got back up and going. During my extreme weight gain I was diagnosed as diabetic and told I'd always be on medication. Well I don't like people telling me what I will and won't do so I figured out how to eat and play and completely control my sugar without any meds. The last time I went to dr, it was a new Dr and he said there was no way I was diabetic, but conceded that I might be sensitive to sugar some since I get shaky if I don't eat every six hours or so. The point I'm trying to make is that my weight doesn't seem to affect my abilities all that much(other than not being able to do pull ups when I gain too much). So as long as I feel good, and I feel strong, I don't care about weight too much.
