Your climbing method.

As with everything there are multiple ways to SRT but my equipment list and approximate cost are as follows:

Madrock Safeguard Ascender: Approx. $90
Ropeman 2: Approx. $40
Petzel Right Foot Ascender: Approx. $80
CMI Micro Pulley: Approx. $25
Rope and a couple of Carabiners

For the record I swapped out one of the carabiners and the micro pulley for a Petzel Rollclip Z roller and carabiner in one. Approx. $50

I'm sure there's less expensive methods but this is what I use.

That doesn’t sound too bad. Would a ropeman 1 work as well? I have an extra one already.

I’m thinking the same thing. Don’t know why I gotta keep looking at different stuff lol. I haven’t even received my WE steps and already I’m looking at new ways to climb. FML.

I hate to add up what I have invested in climbing methods. But I can hunt almost anywhere. The SRT will get me into some new places.

It works but for this purpose I like the Ropeman 2 better. It bites the rope immediately. I need to seat the Ropeman 1 after I move it to make sure it grips. I had a Ropeman 2 at the time as I bought it a point when the "Saddlehunter Effect" was in play on Ropeman 1's and a Ropeman 2 was all I could get.

To go up you need 2 ascending devices (ascender, prusik, grigri/safeguard/lifeguard). To go down you want a rapelling device (grigri, safeguard, lifeguard, atc, etc.). I use an acension/safeguard, and carry prusic loops that I can get down with in a pinch (plus keeping safeguard hooked up full time currently.)

I use a safeguard, an acenscion acender, and various ropes and straps (homemade foot aider and short bridge) and carabiners.

The ropeman 1 is fine if it suits your rope. Add a safeguard and you can rig the rest from cord, webbing, etc. You need 2 ascending devices to go up, and one descender to rappel down.

I originally thought SRT would be my primary method of climbing, for me it literally is as effortless as climbing a ladder. There's just one hitch I ran into . . . getting the rope into the tree to start with. The only way it works for me is to preset but since I seem to prefer mobile hunting presetting just isn't practical for me.

I’d be presetting most of my trees on property I already hunt but can’t get into most of the trees. Giant cottonwoods and oaks.

I took my first saddle deer out of the smallest huge oak that I could barely strap sticks to, and using a lineman belt was a big pain as well. I'll preset it next year for SRT I think (similar property to your description) and get up it safely a lot more easily.

On average how long does it take you to drill and climb a new tree?

What's your weather and type of trees valerio? I've seen some variation (pine trees in the cold slower vs hardwoods)

Here is my video. I used a pretty basic setup that doesnt cost that much. There are cheaper ways to SRT and there are much more expensive ways. This setup I use is pretty bulletproof and easy to use.

Ohio so below 45 most of season. My typical trees are maples, walnuts, and hickory’s.

I think the bigger difference is below freezing. Hardwoods drill pretty well for me.

Just curious, what are you using the Ropeman 2 for?

My approach is a little different than @JCLINE84 s.

When I step down on the foot ascender it grabs and pulls the rope thru the Rollclip Z and lifts the bridge carabiner (and me). The Safeguard captures the upward motion. The rope feeds freely through the foot ascender when I lift my leg. Each step shortens the gap between the Safeguard and the Ropeman so when the gap gets small (about every second step) I just advance the ropeman up the rope by hand as far as I can reach. The system gives me a two to one mechanical advantage so there is virtually no effort involved but you only move up 1/2 the distance of each step. It's still very quick and quiet. As I said, its almost effortless.

Edit: Climbing Process: Lift right leg and step down, repeat. Move Ropeman up rope. Lift right leg and step down, repeat . . . etc. I gain about a foot for every step.

Great, now you've got me looking at foot ascenders. lol

I need to come up with a better hand drill. My EZ Kut drill feels like it’s coming apart and is getting more noisy. I’m also getting tired of drilling holes. Makes me sweat too much, either from drilling or from hanging off the tree the whole time going up. I love predrilling with a cordless drill though. Just not a fan of having to drill out ice. I hate to leave bolts in all of them. Some presets I’ve not even hunted out of yet. Most, just once. Screwing in T-steps for a ROS sounds like more sweat. Lol

For the ice leave a tapered piece of dowel, or piece of stick in the hole. snug fit not to deep, one ortwo inches long then just put em in your pocket and replace them on the way down

Have you tried that?
The thing is, I’m not sure the frozen water is coming from the outside or if it’s from the inside of the tree. Sometimes when I drill a tree it leaks water from the hole for a while. Water sits in those holes. I don’t drill at an angle anymore for that reason. I don’t know how long they leak but if you drill and it gets cold that night you have ice. If it hasn’t leaked in a couple weeks but there is water in the bottom of the hole, it’ll be ice when the winter comes.
