How Much Total Weight do You Carry

how high do you get on 2 cut heliums?

Mine are cut to 22” overall with 19.5” step spacing. With a knaider and swaider I’m getting to just a couple inches under 14 feet. With 3 sticks I’m easily over 18’ without much stretching.

that's awesome. 14 feet is plenty of height to hunt from. i sometimes hunt at 12 or 13. sounds like you are very efficient with your climbing system. thanks for sharing.

You guys are killing my back reading about 20+ lb setups, so I had to do some scale time today! Mine are anywhere from 8 lbs to 12 lbs, depending on where I am going and prefer at that moment, so these are my combos to choose from. I usually take the Squirrel Steps, but can leave them off to shave weight on further hunts - the following weights include them, back band, knee pads, and other items. I am not including water or snacks because I do not carry them on most hunts now and I do not hunt all day. I have modded my Hawk Heliums down to 15" and use 7/64" amsteel daisy chains (I can get to 20+ ft with them using knaider/swaider), removed the leg buckles on the Flex and replaced with G hooks and cut off extra webbing lengths for my tastes, and removed the factory clips on the AH back band for lighter clips. My gold standard on weight is my X-stand climber that weighs 12 lbs. If I can't beat it with a saddle solution, then I am wasting my time as it has served me well over the years.

Combos:
Total weight with WE and Wraptor = 9.0 lbs (8.2 without SS)
Total weight with WE and Flex = 10.0 lbs
Total weight with Heliums and Wraptor = 10.8 lbs
Total weight with Heliums and Flex = 11.8 lbs

Gear options:
Wraptor = 1.0 lbs
AH Flex Size 2 = 2.0 lbs
---------------------------------
4 WE stepps = 3.6 lbs
3 Hawk Heliums = 5.4 lbs
---------------------------------
Fieldline Pro Series backpack (found at DSG) = 1.0 lbs
License, small knife, 2 carabiners, Austrialpin buckle, Ropeman 1, pull-up rope, linesman and tether = 0.8 lbs
Knaider/Swaider = 0.6 lbs
Arcteryx Knee Pads = 0.6 lbs
---------------------------------
AH back band = 0.6 lbs
2 Squirrel Steps and ocb = 0.8 lbs

Okay. Option #2. Super minimal pack. 15 lb total. NO room for extra layers of any sort, so this will be my absolute early season pack. I start carrying at least a vest, outer shell of some sort or my First Lite Uncompahgre in October.

Yeah I kind of made it a point this year to go by the rule if I don't need it for sure....then I'm not bringing it. So if it doesn't get used everytime I go out then it's gone. I also try to use as much of my gear for more than one purpose as I can. Like using my linesman belt as my tether too.
using the linemans as a tether how are you staying 100% attached during your climb

Mantis w/tether(1.5 lbs)
Ameristep ROS(1.5 lbs)
Yates big wall aider w/tether(1.5 lbs)
Backpack: knife, deer drag, snacks, goldbond, survival kit, poo poo paper, and 2 liters(2lbs) of water. (3.5 lbs total)

8lbs. total which will lighten up as I drink the water.
1 liter is equal to 2.20lbs you need to review your weight

Finally weighed my saddle/SRT setup and arrived at 14.6lbs! I'm pretty happy about it.

Does any one carry any first aid? With my job and constant pounding of safety and safety policies, I find my self carrying the same type of first aid and Israeli bandage that I am required to carry for work.

Always, always, always, always, carry a TQ.

There are many things people either have on them, or can readily locate within their immediate environment, that satisfactorily function as makeshift pressure bandages or seals. However, stopping major arterial bleeding with an improvised tourniquet can be difficult to accomplish. Time is of the essence in a situation like that and you don't want to be "trying to figure it out" in the heat of the moment using non-purpose built gear.

TQs are so compact nowadays that there's really no reason not to let one ride in your pocket, full-time. Mine replaced a Skoal can a couple years back and I never noticed the difference.

Other than that, if I've got a boo-boo... it can wait until I get back to the Sonata.

Good stuff redbeard. I think folks get so dingy about carry as little weight as possible, I feel that they disregard water, food, first aid, nav device, and communications. Like I said, this is instilled into me through work and we get emails every-week about other coworkers getting struck by trees, gettin eyes poked out by a tiny limb, impales from slips/trips,heat stroking out. You name it. I basically cant enjoy public lands without a fear of something getting me. Stay safe!

Im at 14lbs 7oz with my vest that includes everything that I will typically take regardless of saddle or stand hunting. Includes binos, thermocell, water, jacket, tether, lB, calls, SC spray, extra phone battery, phone, etc.

My saddle is 1lb 11oz and I dont have anything on it. Its all in the vest.

Most of my climbing methods have a built in platform:

Hawk sticks are 10.8 lbs
7 WE steps and perch is 8lbs 14 oz
LW Seat is 4lbs 4oz

So, im rarely under 20 lbs, generally around 25 lbs

I do have an ultra light set up for quick hunts that includes the Wraptor, 1/4 amsteel tether and 1/4 amsteel LB with a total weight of 2 lbs 10 oz. With bare essentials I can get in this at less than 15lbs with climbing method.

ummm I'll have to weigh it but it feels very close to what I carry as a day pack elk hunting which was 16 pounds.

Stone Glacier 2400, DIY saddle, 3 hawk heliums, nalgene of water, grunt call, linemans, tether, small cell phone power bank, ropeman, 'biners, rangerfinder. I keep it all organized in the pack by what I need in order in ripstop stuffsacks that I made.

I weighed my saddle set up today on a very accurate live stock scale. The items inside my Badlands pack are as follows

Back pack
(7) WE Steps
Predator Platform
Pack Rabbit Frame
Linesman belt
Tether
Kestrel Saddle
Small pack saw
Knife
Grunt call
Aider
Squirrel Steps Strap OCB
(2) ropeman ones
View attachment 13640
Total weight 26lbs excluding my bow and water...
I haven’t weighed mine yet but m going to when I get a few minutes. Is that a badlands pursuit pack?

It depends - I sometimes carry cameras, locks and extra gear.... I carry what I need. 2 years ago I made the most significant weight reduction in my saddle hunting gear and i now carry in 30#s less. And to think it was all located between my hips and chest - KETO rules!
