There is a lot of discussion about new arrow builds and everything involved. The other threads seem to lean slightly towards compound guys.
I think its a little different for trad guys. Most of us are shooting off the shelf, no rest adjustments, no ability to adjust bow weight, etc.
But, regardless of the type of device used to propel an arrow, I love the new mindset of heavier arrows and sturdier broadheads.

I was already half way there. My old arrows were ~545 grains, 18% foc, 150 grain single bevel heads.
I've gone Ashby.
New arrows are ~670 gr, 28% foc, 200 grain single bevel heads, Ethics inserts, and A&A fletch. I'm convinced that this set up will penetrate best for my bow.
It took a while, but I have them flying better than my old arrows.
One minor issue. The new Grizzly Stik Momentum shafts won't work with my old, beloved Screaming Eagle quiver...too skinny.
I made a new gripper today.
I looked at a few new quivers, but none are as nice as the Screaming Eagle quiver that I've used for the last 28 years.
What arrow rigs are you guys shooting?

Here's my new gripper I made from an old piece of conveyor belt. I'm liking it and I didn't have to buy a new $120 store bought model.

I’ve been messing with a daysix 500 spine arrow, 596 grains with a 200 grain grizzlystik or Simmons broadlead, ethics insert/outsert. 26-28% foc. They fly really well from my two bows.

Just got a new dozen arrows from D&M Custom Arrows in the mail today. Goldtip Traditional. 500 spine 31.25 long. They have 145 grain points now but will wear 150 VPA 3 blade broadheads this fall.
About 5-6 years ago I shot a 120 lb buck with a 40 lb Martin Dreamcatcher using a .400 spine Easton Axis and a 300 grain Big Jim's 3 blade broadhead. Total weight of a whopping 706 grains. The deer came straight to the Honey Locust I was hunting over. The shot was 10 yards. I shot....the deer ran off. I thought I had missed until I saw the deer stop 40 yards away and just fell over. I looked at the ground saw the arrow buried in the dirt and from my stand I blood trailed the deer. Unbelievable blood trail!
The autopsy showed I hit the shoulder blade and blew through it. So yes heavy arrow and high FOC are devastating.

I have been shooting 30 1/2" Black Eagle Instincts with 100 grain insert and 190 grain Simmons heads, 587 grains out of a 46 pound Black Widow PCHX, 29" draw. Dead quiet and fly great. Am about to experiment with the Black Eagle Deep Impact, that will come out to 535 grains with a 175 grain head, all else being the same. We'll see how that works......

Not saying that your 706 arrow wouldnt have blown through heavy bone, but the shoulder blade on a deer is weak. you can pretty much poke a pencil through. I was impressed when my montec punched through one and right through the rest of deer until i felt it. The flat part of the blade doesnt have much to it. im in total agreement with you about arrow set up dont get me wrong.

I have the same screaming eagle quiver too. Love that thing. Mine is the strap/velcro model and is bomb proof.

Yep. I thinks its as nice as a quiver can be. I was bummed when I realized my new arrows are too skinny for the grippers. And I was equally bummed when the Great Northern came in the mail. I didn't like it at all. My diy gripper is gonna work great. New life for my Screaming Eagle quiver! I'm pumped!
I dont know why nobody has remade those quivers. I think I will be buried with mine.

I can get some pics, and measurements for you later.
If you want to build one, I can send you a piece of the conveyor belt material for the gripper. Very easy to reproduce the original gripper. I can trace the footprint of it for you and further explain how I did it if you want. All the tools you need is a drill and a sharp utility knife.

Here are a few pics.
This sucker is almost 30 years old. Its the only quiver I've used since 1992.
I like a 5 arrow quiver and I really like that all 5 arrows on the SE are easily accessible. The Great Northern style quiver has those 2 arrows on the back side that are kinda "captive". Its a little tight to pull one out of the quiver, especially when its a razor-sharp broadhead. The SE quiver keeps arrows in a tight cluster and they are all easy to access. And it stays tight on the bow.
The one pic is just with bare shafts after I made the new gripper. If anyone needs more detailed pics, dimensions, or other info, just ask.

Let me know.
I think its important to try to reproduce the gripper to the dimensions of the original. If its too small, then the fletching many rub against each other and if its too large, then the fletching of the arrows closest to the lower limb may not clear the limb.
I could make the gripper for you if I knew what diameter your arrows are.

Thank you sir I’m not even sure what shafts I’m ending up with leaning towards the axis 5mm on the hood is it 4” in diameter or smaller. Man I wish I had my old one simple and easy design

I am deciding on which riser to run my new limbs on and so That means I will be working up another arrow.
It may be that one of my current arrows will work.
We are in the middle of three days of rain so I have not been out to shoot.

Rain? What's that? It's been so long since it's rained here that I almost forget what rain is. 2 days in a row, there was rain within 5 miles of us but we never got a drop.

Here's a few measurements...
The bar length, when measured around all the bends is 18.5" Pad to pad contact is 11.5" and the bar where the top pad contacts the bow is 1" from the bow and the bar at the bottom pad is about 2" prom the bow.. The hood is slightly oval and measures 3.5"x 3" and 3" deep. I think the hood should be a little deeper to accommodate some of the long broad heads we shoot.
The gripper is 2 7/8"x 2 1/8".

It seems to me that the hardest component to make would be the hood, but the most critical component will be the bar and getting it's bends done correctly. I guess I could bend-up a duplicate and ship it to you along with the gripper.

And since we are talking quivers, there was an excellent tip that I recent read someplace (I can't remember where I saw it). The guy suggested changing the dark-colored foam in hoods to a light colored foam. The mindset here is that the slots for the broad heads will be much easier to see when you return an arrow to the quiver in low light situations. I really like that idea. I just need to find some light colored foam.

Thank you for the info. The leather hood will be no problem to make I was thinking of making slightly longer as I got plenty of it as I do quite a bit of leather work and for the foam I just cut up a light blue foam exercise step last night for a select since I’m to cheap to order the foam for it and I didn’t want to wait. LOL
