I have a bone to pick with some of you...

Buy once, cry once doesn’t exist for this dude. He is the ultimate shopper and doesn’t lose when he sells. He is still shopping with the 1st $300 his wife allowed him since he got married. Plus, even if he comes across the best setup, that won’t be good enough for him. He will sell it, realized what he had and buy it again, then see something else that turns his gears and sell it again. It’s a vicious cycle. Sometimes the chase is the most enjoyable part. Lol

If you notice the guys who found “Their” best set up don’t post much here anymore. Lol so I agree most with the last sentence in your post.

The chase is pretty fun but I’m a changed man. Gonna start sewing lol

For sure everyone is different. And I've tried it all. Climber, hang on, ladderstands, big platform, little platform, ring of steps, bolts, top step of stick, and just standing on a limb. They all have merits. Disregarding comfort (subjective) and setup effort (less subjective, but still subjective) I feel a ring of bolts offers you the most shot options on the most trees. You get to pick and place as many solid footholds on the tree as you feel you need on that tree.

Most of the options can work most of the times for most of the hunters.

And some of the options work none of the times for some of the hunters.

And all of the options work all of the times for Nutterbuster because he's the best. Anyone who says otherwise only says so because he stays awake at night wishing he was as awesome as Nutterbuster.

(Y'all didn't think I was gonna get lame just because I had a vendor badge again, did ya? ;)

But for realsies, everybody has different goals and priorities. I'm glad GCR started a 7 page and counting thread on the ring of steps. Really, everybody should probably own some and a good platform. And a pacseat. And a hand climber. And a hang on stand. And a 5 gallon bucket. But if ya can only have one, get a 5 gallon bucket.

note to @DanO. offer EWOTASDAGS (eastern woods outdoors tactical assault storage device and ground seat)
Wish i could use bolts here.
where imfrom you break a branch your illegal

Preach! Got him down to a T

Dudes who complain about their feet getting sore are just soft. ROS is less gear to carry, better shooting around the tree, less money (probably), quiet, don't break (well at least how I'm deployed)...

I'm not against platforms, but I'm not investing in one.

Yeah I never had foot issues unless I was using lacrosse grange boots or their hip boots that have a soft sole. It’s like being barefoot. When my feet get tired, I sit and take the pressure off my feet.

I will say this. I'm a ROS guy at heart. But, 3 years of office work is making me soft. It's not so much a ROS is hard on your feet, it's just a combination of multiple days in a row of walking, climbing, and sitting that make you tired. But now that I'm fat everything makes me tired faster.

Don't be fat. Be a flying squirrel. Not a marmot.

You just gotta cut back on the high life.

Yea man you gotta get back in climbing shape for all them EWO reviews you got coming. No one is gonna trust your opinion if you keep telling everyone you only hunt from the ground but are an expert in climbing methods, gear and saddle equipment :tearsofjoy:

Once u found ur best system u been on here long enough to realize, 97% on saddlehunter full of it or themselves, see peeps offer suggestions that haven't been tried personally, u tired of seeing the exact same questions (although worded different) asked thousands of times, and how many pics of hawk sticks, ridiculously priced backpacks, and predator platforms can u look at?...gets a little monotonous...

Not saying I don’t agree or see the same things you mention but your responses to all that are equally monotonous....... I can feel your passive aggressive negativity through every backhanded comment. That monotony and the constant asking of the same questions is a an age old tiring issue that plagues most forums not just this one. I’m just glad there are enough guys on here that put up with it enough to help guys get into saddle hunting and be safe while doing it despite the fact. Or at least humor me and chat about their experiences!

As for hunting I agree the goal would be to lock down a system that works and go kill mature deer. Guys that have done this via the saddle hunting method don’t have much more to gain by checking in and likely get tired of giving back. I’m still on the play with a bunch of gear and be happy to kill a few deer stage. I’m also on the don’t mind sharing my experience with gear and answering a few age old questions here and there.

MORE ROS STUFF: Has anyone done anything to their treehopper steps to quiet and or help with grip to the tree? That OCB did lock them down well but I was thinking a little friction on that surface couldn’t hurt. Maybe vet tape the steps and grip tap the surface that touches the tree?

I agree to an extent but I’m a tinkering kind of guy.
I have my setup. I don’t change much but I’m always trying to improve it. Lighter, tighter, holds the tree better, packs better, quieter, no moving parts, folding, extending, different materials, you name it.
Yep I been here a while. I see saddlehunter as a gear site. There are many others I see as improving as a hunter sites. I think I have made some good friends here and don’t reckon I will leave unless @redsquirrel bans me! Lol

The amount of things I have tried would surprise most and embarrass me. Lol. From things I used as a saddle, to what I have climbed with, what I have stood on. We didn’t always have options and most were home made.
