How thin of a tree do you climb?@Samcirrus - have you had any issues with this method on smaller diameter trees at all?

Yep, I'd recommend a minimum of 6" rod or bolt because you not only want to torque it tight but the longer the rod, the less force to secure it with.I would think plenty strong enough but might be hard to torque because it is kinda short.?
I hope I didn't steal the joy of your testing....but yr idea was good and I had to try it out! At a very tight pull, this stuff held it easily! Great idea!Having not tried this method yet (but will in a few days). I'm considering locking down the twist tool with just a heavy nite ize gear tie. I usually carry one with me anyways. I would think that It would hold it with no problem without introducing any metal to the system. Thoughts?
Northern Minnesota aka: The ArcticSam...that is an awesome share!!...I am going outwide now to try this...where in the world are you that it is still so cold outside?
No joy stolen. Saved me some time. I just wanted something light weight, compact and something I'm already carrying. I normally carry an extra gear tie, biner, prussik and an amsteel DC.I hope I didn't steal the joy of your testing....but yr idea was good and I had to try it out! similar too this.whoops went past ring of steps.now woundering about all the steps. For a very thin tree, which i never climb, you can just use the tag end of the rope to secure the rod once its tightened!View attachment 64634
I would add tubular webbing to the entire Amsteel except where the tourniquet and anchor is.This!!! Simple quick and easy my only question is how well would the amsteel work in slotted squirrel steps? Anybody tried it yet?
Did you just grind a notch in the spacer for the amsteel to cinch around? It's hard for me to tell with the stealth strip.Alright this is awesome!!
I need to play around with a different size/material for the rope portion but this is really crazy tight and completely silent with no effort to cam over etc. I used a carriage bolt and a big enough steel spacer to leave room to slide on the bolt with stealth stripping.
