Trad bow deals

I've got 2 70s era Wings on my rack now, both still in good condition. I got nostalgic for a wing bow this winter and ended up buying 2. I shot my first trad bow deer with one in 1980.
I lent that bow to a guy who had an interest, but like many lendings I never saw it again. Wish I had that one back, but also hope wherever it ended up it took many hunting trips.

You don't happen to be a lefty? ;)

Sorry @Red Beard , no. I would have messaged you directly if it was a lefty!

I realize some have a hesitation towards buying older bows, but I personally have never had a bad experience. I love the performance you can get at a reasonable cost. I especially like not being overly concerned with it getting well used in the woods. Minor dings and scratches that would hurt on a custom bow are not evan registered on a solid older hunting bow. Which means more focus on the hunt than my pretty custom stick. I just have to shootmy custom recurve much more accurately. It may be because it is a 64" and I tend to shootthose better, but whatever the reason, the most accurate bow for me comes with me to hunt.

Shucks Art. You could have saved us all and said that on the second post of this thread and I would've stopped spending evenings looking for cheap stickbows for folks :tearsofjoy:
Brother you know me anything will work but I push for the higher end gear that I steer you towards. Hell I’ll dig thru my gear and send you a classic bow of yesteryear can’t guarantee it will be a shooter LOL and BTW your doing awesome getting these fellas into great bows!!!

I would get a Sage or black hunter as a starter bow as a lot of the older bows can be tricky as you don’t know the history and unless you know how to straighten the limbs and hope they don’t delaminate as the glues of yester year are no where as good as today and while a lot of them are still going strong it’s still a crap shoot but hey that’s me and I don’t want to deter anyone from a classic bow but it’s sometimes better to check it out first hand
Razorbak66 I've been toying with the idea of getting into a traditional bow and was looking at the black hunter. I've read some reviews stating the string it comes with is junk and should be replaced with a Flemish twist right away. Some buyers have also stated their bows came with propeller twist in the limbs that they were able to work out. Is that something to be worried about ? Overall they seem to be quality bows and a lot of guys are raving about them and their quality for such a cheap bow. Do you have any knowledge on an arrow to start with? I am looking at the 45 LB draw.

It might feel wrong after shooting all those fancy limbs and risers to shoot a 50 yr old piece of glass backed wood lol
Funny thing is after shooting the Morrison for a long time and then going to shoot the Sage for a bit... the Sage has a beauty to it as well. A slower beauty, but a beauty nonetheless.

Well the string is do able as it’s a d97 endless but I would get a properly made Flemish for it and if you get a hunter I let me know I will make you one. I help a buddy few weeks ago set up his black hunter and at the same weight and he is running 500 spine shafts with 175 on it but not knowing your draw I would say the 600 spine shafts will work as well. The shelf is highly radius on all accounts and you can shoot fine off the shelf but I would recommend a cheap plastic hoyt rest that’s like 2.50$ as that allows better clearance and flight in my opinion. My buddy is shooting lights out with the bow and really enjoying it. There are many older bows out there that shoot just as good or better but for the price the black hunter is real nice. Pm me if you need more suggestions

Here. This is probably one of the best deal. I'm tempted to pull trigger on this if no one want to. I'm only sharing info so someone pull trigger and take away temptation from me.

That is a smoking deal! If it was the 45LB draw I would be all over it. They are going for around $110.00 on Amazon right now.

I appreciate the info and will definitely contact you for a string. Fathers day is coming up soon so ill be dropping some hints to the wife :)

Limbs are cheap always good to get a couple weights if you desire. Longbow and recurve limbs works good on that riser

That is a great weight to learn proper form with and like @Razorbak66 said above you can buy heavier limbs for that bow pretty cheap. If you are looking to try Traditional archery that would be a good way to do it. I noticed the seller allows returns if it happens that one of the limbs are twisted, etc since it's an open box item. I actually thought about buying it just to have on hand to let friends shoot it. I hit "buy it now" two different times but backed out both times because I really don't need another bow. Lol

I love a good deal, but my "wants" aren't cheap. I'm looking for a t/d longbow these days. Lots out there yet I keep finding myself drooling over a Bushmen.

Same. My holy grail is the Shrew Siberian Tiger that Ron Laclair uses. But I'm at the point where l understand what I'm paying for are my 'wants'. Not my needs. With all the reviews from every sources including hunters with decades of experience. Performance wise a black hunter bow came do everything l need. But saving for a custom bow, I'm paying for craftmanship and characters. If you can afford it and save up, get what make you happy.

If your HG is a siberian tiger then you best stop looking at that Don Dow :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy:
