OnX vs, HuntWise? Hunt stand etc?

I too am searching. I'm that guy who hasn't used any of these apps. Im also that guy who can't handle change, so what ever I start with is what I'll stick with. What I'm saying is I want to skip the dating and go straight into the marriage! One app-say it loud?

Just spent 3 weeks on this app reasearch stuff. Now that on x has 3D maps they win. It comes down to quickly finding public access points for me. And 3D works in the field more often than not. Offline maps are great. I looked at all the major players

Did you compare the spartan forge? My onx expired. Haven't re newed it yet.

Tried Forge but they were not focused on Northeast deer data and I only hunt around NH. Cool research

I have been using Hunt Stand for two years and it does what I need.
My only issue is the wind direction. Several times I go to a stand based on a 3 to 5 mph wind from x direction. Get to my stand and the wind is light and variable. When I check The Weather Chanel app, it shows the wind as light and variable.
I now use The Weather chanel for reliable wind direction.

From my viewpoint, if OnX would update their satellite to leaf-off (for the southeast, at least), they'd have the competition beat by leaps.

For me, other apps try to be too much. That makes the user experience frustrating with a steeper learning curve.

Just give me base layers, points, tracks, measuring, boundaries, etc. As Bob Dylan said ... "you don't need a weatherman to know which way the winds blows." And I don't need an app trying to overlay that either.

OnX is a great app, but for the areas I hunt, their maps are 5+ years old and land owner data is 1-2 years outdated. I have used it since it came out, but after contacting them about the stale data, and getting a run around answer, I'm done. Huntstand is better and I'm experimenting with Basemaps now.

Windfinder is also good. Windfinder

Spartan Forge is what I use. It was the new kid last year and has already surpassed several of the other apps with imagery and technology. If they can continue to do what they are doing they will probably get purchased or bought out by a larger tech company.

I have these same exact issues with OnX and it is strongly making me consider letting my OnX subscription expire. Not sure why the OnX gps is so wacky but there are times where I will be standing still and my location will vary by 30-40 yards in any direction. Not ideal when trying to find a small trail walking out in the dark.

Can’t anyone speak to Huntstands GPS accuracy?

Ditto …mine wanders around in every direction its horrible cannot believe onx hasn’t fixed this but they haven’t

GPS waypoint locations and returning to the waypoint on a new trip is not working for me the gps pointer literally wanders around while I stand at the effected waypoint

I have Onx and HuntStand, I’ll be canceling onx. I like their clean interface and distance mapping but the totally inaccurate property ownership info has bitten me in the butt soooo many times. I’m not sure why it’s so inaccurate as the info comes right from the county records and I have zero issues with HuntStand and it’s not just with one county it’s multiple counties. I like HuntStands layers and way point marking. Yes onx has layers too but as I’ve had so many issues with it in the past I find myself unable to trust the data.

OnX has gone to trash. They haven’t updated a map in at least 3 years for my area. I have to solely rely on my offline maps 90% of the time and it’s almost always wrong. It’ll show my location being 2 miles in the opposite direction and refuse to update until I close the app and re open it (sometimes multiple times) and on top of that I noticed waypoints were off this year by hundreds of yards in some spots. I’m not thrilled I would have much rather bought 15 gallons of diesel fuel with my hundred bucks than let their terrible service renew

I use OnX and it’s done the trick, but I’ll admit, spartanforge caught my eye…. I just don’t want to lose all my intel on OnX. Sure wish there was a way to transfer that sort of stuff.
you can let your onx run out and everything you’ve saved will remain. Then just cross reference it as needed that’s what I plan on doing
