Good luck.
Had a single deer arrive just past shooting light. It was making a helluva racket and could just make out the shape. Going back to the same spot before first light to see if it comes back.
Talking to my neighbor, the deer population in this area is way down and he thinks the 3 tag allowance is DNR’s way to cull due to CWD.
It’s still way too warm and bone dry for them to be moving in daylight. After the morning hunt and if I see nothing, I’ll leave and come back in 2 weeks. It should be cooler by then and the bucks should be rutting.

Recovery same morning

Last night, had a deer come out at 40y after legal light. I could see its shape and nothing else.
This morning, had a deer in the apples at 0600 but it left for the woods at 0630. Saw nothing else.
Took a stroll through the woods at 0845 and bumped nothing, no real signs of any fresh trails and no rubs/scrapes.

Talking with my neighbor after this morning, whatever deer are around are strictly nocturnal given the heat and drought. This is what I've been seeing as well.
I'm sporadically getting a deer or two on camera as is he. The farm to the east of us has had nothing on his cameras and the farm to the south and west (400 acres, mostly woods) has only had sporadic pics. There's also 3 amish farms in the area with close to 50 kids between them, they've been busted in the past for poaching and will readily kill a spot fawn.
I'll give it one more shot in 2 weeks when cooler temps and the rut will hopefully get whatever in the area moving but do not have high hopes.

Seen 5 today but nothing legal....they were all the tiniest deer I've ever seen with no spots except 1 normal size one

This was kinda weird....L bracket, 2 eye bolts and 2 biners attaches to the trunk....if this tree was standing this stuff would have near 40ft in the air

Ok, well it's been a few days...... I messed up on a big one, again. I hit him back and decided to back out, but convinced myself that I hit liver and only waited 3.5 hours and I tracked him on easy blood to the last bed that had signs of Mt jumping him out of it........... stupid moves jeez, I should have just let him go until the morning.....
Sorry to hear that…it happens to all of us at some point…this is the third buck I know of this season that couldn’t be found…stay positive and get back out there
been very warm here in WV over the last week, went out saturday with ZERO movement. Hoping to get out Friday or Sunday for sure!
