No-go this weekend but fully plan on Veterans weekend. Wx is 30+mph winds and high temps near 30.

With luck, that’ll be the best conditions yet.

Well fellas, you know how they say everything happens for a reason, i just dropped my biggest by far, punched my PA buck tag!!! Pics to follow, still getting him out of the woods!!!!!!!!!

Ok full write up:
So I played hookie from work today. Got into the tree this morning about a half hour early, it was hot, low was 61 last night. I didn't have an movement until 840, a doe snuck directly downwind of me, to 9 yards. Then at 1050 I had a big 6 vote through and find a doe then cheer her right back past me twice. I called it @ 1230 as it hit 80°. I went to a spot that I want to briefly check out before rifle season, then home to hunt locally. It's only a 15-20 min drive. I go to setup behind my house on a perfect wind for the spot. I had never hunted this exact spot for some reason I can't explain. Wind was forecasted straight out the south but was wrapping the hill side I was on like it was out of the south east, the deer would be coming out directly up wind from me! Well nothing showed until 1750 when 2 doe came out and I saw the bigger one kept looking back. She kept doing this for 20 minutes or so when finally I saw him headed out to the field. I got him stopped at 50 yards on the button and sent one. I heard what sounded like a loud bone Crack and thought omg not again, buy watching him in the scope, I tracked hum til he fell over in the field 60 yards from where I hit him! Crazy thing is I have known this deer since 2020 when I believed he was a 3-4 yo. Also I didn't take any pice with the saddle last night I was all jazzed up again I'll take one when the sun comes up!


 
Congratulations! He’s a toad! Got my best buck on a blind hunt while hunting Sundays in a WMA. When pheasant season opened I thought I was gonna get shot, so I came down at 9 and scouted further away from the fields. Next week came back and nailed a nice 8.
I’m curious how old your buck is. If you don’t know how to age them on the teeth, it’s pretty easy and there are some good videos on how to do it by professionals.

Well. Crossbow has a cracked limb again, same limb that cracked while I was on Guam in the early spring. I'm done with it, I'm so overly frustrated and disappointed in Bear for this product and the customer support on this. Luckily, I still have a little confidence in my Bear compound, I haven't hunted with it this year but I've shot a little. It'll do for the rest of the season.
Anyway, I'm on to focusing on filling the rest of my buck tags in WV this year, and I still have a bunch of doe tags that'll I'll focus on after Xmas with the flintlock!!! Anyway how's everyone else's rut shaping up? Anyone out there this week?
 
I really wanna go hunt....still waiting on the quota weekend and/or the military base that has first come first serve day permits to open the archery blocks of woods.....I maybe sneak off next and get an afternoon or 2 in before then but not counting on that
 
Next weekend is crappy wx but my last guaranteed hunt. After that, it’s purely based on the snow.

It’s been a few years since I’ve been skunked but it’s a distinct possibility.

I’m off all this week and Monday too. I was supposed to go out today but it’s 73 and I didn’t feel like hiking 2 miles in this heat. Tomorrow and Wednesday the high is 56, so it should be great.
 
GO HUNTING! If you have the time just go, it was 81° I saw chasing all day, my cameras were getting pics all day.... your off, go get in the woods. Sweat, get stinky, whatever, it can happen, but only if your out there!
 
I will be going out tomorrow! Time to get some RUT action! Low mid 30’s in the AM and high 60!
