Why don't yall 2TC?

Gotta tell him sticks are dangerous and he just needs more practice!
He's 9 and has no fear yet. He doesnt like stick either but love SRT. Always asking to climb if he can. He got his sisters involved too now a days.

How do you alleviate kickout or pendulum effect when 2TC? Do you expect it as a possibility, but rely on your top tether and saddle connections to absorb the force of that?

Nothing to kick out with 2tc. Can't really swing much either unless you're trying to climb a severely leaning tree
How is that? What's keeping your foot from going left or right besides having your foot against the bark of the tree?

Your other foot being wrapped around the tree. Keep the lower tether portion that comes out of the girth hitch and goes to the “stirrup” vertical (not out to either side), stand and wrap off leg around tree. at this point your kinda squeezing the tree between your tethered foot and your non tethered foot.

Yeah, we're just tree huggers going up the tree lol.

My experience as a right handed person that climbs with my left foot in the lower (foot) tether is to keep the foot tether to the slight left and the top body tether to the slight right. My weight shifts with each step so I'm centered to the tree like others have said. Any decent hiking or hunting boot will grip the tree if your footloop is in the center of your boot.
I keep my tethers apart so as to reduce any overlaping or clanking of carabiners.
Edit: I meant to reply to LAKY.

maybe this is a stupid question but would it be possible to mount the 3-step aider from my one-stick on a rope that could then be used to effectively 2TC?

I suppose the rub would be that this idea doesn't really do anything in helping climb faster/move the tethers more distance. it would just be a way to use gear I already have.

I sort of like the general idea if only because the Harken cleat on my 1-stick is kinda loud.

Yes! The biggest thing to watch is your top tether slack with this style.

@goody94 shows how well it works in the video above

That's super helpful. Is there a recommended strap/cam system to use with the aider? I imagine converting my linesman would be not as easy to pull loose as a what I think I am seeing in the video.

Your lineman’s belt would work fine as your bottom tether to connect your 3-step aider to. You’d essentially be connecting it to the tree the same way you do your top tether. Also if you leave 8-12” between your prusik and the girth hitch around the tree you should have enough rope to move the bottom tether up the tree without adjusting each move. 7CF76F17-0B17-45EB-A34E-5E8841944B2E.jpeg

How do y'all deal with vines? Pull them down or cut them? Even on public? In a lot of areas (southern select cut hardwoods), it seems vines are on almost every tree. With bolts or steps, you can kind of work around them like limbs. With 2TC, it seems those trees would be a pain.

pruners or handsaw.

If it's poison ivy I pick another tree, lol. If it is one of those "grape" vines I can usually push it out of the way as I go by. I don't tend to run into this a lot. It's the same with branches from other nearby trees. Just sort of push them aside as I go up the tree.

Clean trees are definitely easier, but trees with vines or lots of small branches can be climbed by just loosening your tethers a bit more and sliding over the branches and vines. this works as long as the branches are small enough to be pliable, sounds like a squirrel scampering about

They don't weigh much or take a lot of room in the lack. If it's really infested then ropes might not be the play. Or just move down the way.

I pull 'em down if they will pull down. Sometimes have to cut them at the bottom. Have cut bigger ones loose at the bottom and pulled them out and hang them up on a branch so they are out of the way. No worries about the type of vine, I dont react to any of them.

Is there a section of posts discussing 2tc with an aider on the bottom tether? I see mshultz373 just asked about it too.

Mostly curious if it's not popular, why?
