Ha I was just thinking on that today, I’m gonna fix my bottom tether with the new hitch and I’ll do a multiple limb passing video! Stay tuned for the upcoming video, maybe even tomorrow!!!’

What’s the new hitch your mentioning, I didn’t see you post the name, but I could have missed it.

Haven’t really shown it yet, just told Samcirrus about it so he could help me test it further! Gonna test it just a bit more then I’ll post a video for my fellow saddle hunting friends! It’s a hitch for your tether to make passing limbs very simple and no mechanical devices or extra carabiners needed. Just want to make sure there are no kinks before sharing it with everyone!

The maverick hitch is a spectacular hitch and works very well but some people are very nervous about tying hitch’s at the tree, especially while in the air! I wanted to come up with one that can be tied at home, left on the tether, not have to pass your whole tether, foot loop, and hitches through a end loop, just hook it up and go up!

I’ve used a 3/16” Amsteel soft shackle on my tether as a way to pass branches without having to feed the whole rope through. That was really just a replacement for a carabiner, though. Hoping you’ve got something revolutionary.

What’s your experience with the soft shackles been used in that way? I’ve been wanting to change to soft shackles to try for a while now.

In référence to soft shackles.....if i remember correctly.i belive my small petzel carabiners with covers and elastic rope break ,or stoper on them are actualy compareable to pack , allmost as light, and quick conect for ease of setup and passing branches when my hands are cold and wet.plus having my tether tied directly to my bridge as one peice with my carabiner cinching the tree keeps the only metal in my gear against the tree and away from me so i cant posibly bump it with my bow, beer or release .whats funy is tying knots actualy takes up alot Of rope and space and gets almost as heavy as aluminum more than i thought .but dont do what i do less you wanna die.im dangerouse to all saddle hunters who can read what i say....even without hurting myself 1 time in over à decade making my own climbing gear.not 1 bruise or scratch....weird....theres lots of advice on this forum from people that have hurt themselves.not poo poing the shackle idea or any other knots ...i love them all.its just the conclusion i came to for myself.

Too fiddly for my taste. I’ve gone back to tying a figure 8 for my tether. Simple and proven. It’s not that big of a deal to pull 7 or 8’ of rope through the loop.
For rappelling, I had been using the running JRB hitch, but I’m changing that to the Maverick hitch.

Gunner's got a good point! And it's another great feature of just using the Maverick hitch rather than any carabiner or soft shackle. No stored knots. Also you don't have to remove the hitches on your rope if you pull the rope down and your release line up with a preset tied to it!

In my experience if the amsteel is 1/4" or larger than its okay. Once you go smaller it's hard to undo with gloves on and the time of undo and retie is much longer than a carabiner.
If its a pure noise decision, then yes they are good. But a releasable knot like the Maverick only takes 18" of rope on my CIV and 16" on the Ultratech. You can even use it with a spliced eye rope because then you have a great handle or loop to release it with!

Maybe I'll take one using that new tether and doing the '2TC Crooked Tree Challenge'???

Yee Haw

Last weekend I set out on a mission to find the worst tree to 2TC...

I'm just now getting around to posting it here. :unamused:
This tree was too messed up for ropes so I just plain ol' climbed it…
