    Diy stick

I made the exact same design! My first attempt at making sticks too. Mine are about 20”. I use two sticks and a platform and I can get my platform to at least 15ft, more if there’s a branch or two I can use. Definitely put yours through the wringer, see how you like it. I made buttons out of...

    Primal step platform

I originally was going to put gussets! Once I had that welded together it was so solid that I didn’t need it. It’s thick tubing. That part doesn’t flex, just stretches the strap and comes off the tree, needs longer legs. On my next one I plan to use thinner wall tubing and definitely add gussets.

    DIY mini platform

Love the look of that! Have you tried it in a tree yet? I have just started experimenting making platforms and I too have been thinking Id love to be able to weld aluminum. It’s be so much lighter.

    Primal step platform

Thanks. I use a tie down strap from my x-stand sticks for now, but being able to get it tighter with a ratchet may help. I’d really like to use cord like a rope mod on sticks.

    Primal step platform

Nice build! I like the design similar to the tree steps. I might have to try something like that. 3 lbs is good! Here is my first platform attempt, works pretty well except on small trees and it does tend to pull away and bend down. Similar size about 10”deep and 14 wide

    First platform fab

Collected some scrap materials for to make this. It’s all 1” tubing about .125 wall thickness, maybe less. And plywood for the middle. It’s about 16“ wide by 8 deep. I’ve used it 4 or 5 times now it works pretty well, I plan on making another one and there’s a few improvements I would do: longer...

Had a 2.5 year old 8 point walk under my stand one morning, bumped 6 does feeding under a white oak one evening. Acorns are started to hit the ground around here in NKY.

    Repelling down

I came to saddle hunting with rock climbing experience and use the same rappel method for trees: Black diamond ATC with a prusik backup. You simply run the rope over large enough branch and run both sides of the rope through the ATC, connected two your bridge. Pretty easy setup and easy rope...

    Why not?

Interesting idea. I was just messing around with the rope mod but I too only had 7mm not 8mm. I am definitely goin to try this out.

How much have you spent on your saddle setup?

Just purchased my first saddle and setup: 150 for trophyline lite 50 in rope for tether, linemans, rappel rope and cordage had biners from rock climbing had a set of sticks I've practiced a bit now and I think all I need is a platform, planning to build one from scrap metal I have. Going to...

    Help me understand

Your not overthinking, I like to understand the whole picture as well. You'll feel a lot safer if you know exactly how you are attached to the tree and how strong everything is.

Thanks everyone. Yes I've been seeing that as a trend on here and I'm definitely okay with modding or trying different ones. Good to know.

New saddle hunter from Northern KY

Hello all! I am going to try saddle hunting for the first time this season. I have only been hunting about two seasons now but I am obsessed. I rock climb and am very comfortable and excited with the idea of saddle hunting and hanging in a tree. My plan now is to purchase a Trophyline saddle and...
