    Compound self sufficiency...thoughts?

Buy strings from an established maker instead of trying to make them. You'll have a much better string and come out money ahead. Bow parts are generally only sold to licensed dealers.

Everyday work pants. Am I forgetting a brand?

Blue mountain utility pant at TSC. You can catch them on sale for $14. Relatively thin cotton so they're not too heavy for summer heat.

    Fish fry breading

Andy's Red. Andy's Cajun if you want more heat.

    Detachable quiver suggestions

I've had the same tightspot since 2009 and it's still going strong. For a cheaper quiver I always liked the soft locs.

Why is my oak dropping tiny akerns?

Oaks commonly "cast off" excess nuts this time of year. It doesn't necessarily mean you'll see a mast failure this Fall.

    New strings surprised me

Twisting cables shorter increases poundage and adds draw length. That's where the increase in your speed came from. To the OP, increased speed isn't the reason you're shooting 6 to 8 inches higher.

Do you track your hunts? I want to see them!

I've kept a hunt journal off and on but have been steady with it the last 6 seasons. It's interesting to compare year to year and remember past hunts. 2023-2024 bow season: 24 morning hunts 36 evening hunts 160 does seen while on stand 54 bucks seen 10 "shooter" bucks seen 17 blank hunts...

Most deer harvested in one day?

We're lucky to have unlimited doe tags in most of the counties I hunt. I've doubled many times and shot 3 once but as long as I live, I'm sure I'll never shoot 5 in one sit again. That was a combination of hunting a thick spot that was eat up with deer plus me being young and mad at them. I...

    The Piled-High Club

You may not see many replies to this since it's early November! 1) These days most guys shoot plenty well enough on targets to kill a pile of deer. It comes down to executing under stress and shot selection. Most of my bad shots I rushed even when there was no reason to be in a hurry. I'd be...

    Bow Emergency Need Help

Cut it back, burn the tag ends and go hunt. He's got 19 more strands, it's not going to explode. Replace it after rut.

100P&Y deer, MORE P&Y World Records than ANYONE

I saw a similar scene at the same Indiana show probably 10 years ago. Chuck gave a seminar to a nearly empty crowd. Later I saw him sitting alone at a folding table with his books for sale. There was a line of grown men going past his table who were waiting to get an autograph from some unknown...

    Best Dog for the Job

I'm not real familiar with him but he sells a hide drag kit. Most veteran trackers will tell you to get away from hide or liver drags relatively early on in training. It's so much scent contact with the ground, it's not realistic to what they'll experience on an actual track. Lots of random...

Podcast with The Ashby Bowhunting Foundation

I totally get it. I've made my share of poor decisions over the years bowhunting and am constantly trying to improve. Again, I'm not proud of that scenario but I bring it up because it's worth reviewing. I've had more deer duck hard that were unalert than ones head up looking my way. Had a late...
