    Louisiana Saddle Hunter's Thread

I would just love to see two bucks tags instead of three and less rifle days or purely lottery rifle on a few WMAs. Thistlewaite during the 4 on one side days was awesome to hunt compared to now. I don’t particularly care for a point rule but those restrictions made a huge difference.

I bet if the hunters felt like they actually had a voice in this state you'd see a lot more volunteering. Instead, I drive across the line for much better big buck hunting opportunities because of restrictions; they work.

I've hunted a lot of public lands in LA but never have I ever stepped foot in Sicily Island. Honestly I've pasted by it quite often and it looks fairly intense terrain. Reminds me of red dirt-wilderness area.

High water always condenses and pushes animals to a particular area....hell our whole rut is dependent on spring flooding which is why river basin deer rut so damn late..... I'm sure in the right situation though water pockets hold deer but we just have sooooo many bayous and spring fed creeks...

I'd probably do a Red Dirt, Fort Polk, or Catahoula NWP hunt for Thanksgiving. That's just my perspective; hunt area 3/8/2 until December then move to Area 1/6 for December / January.

    Louisiana Saddle Hunter's Thread

I grew up hunting Tensas and had some of the best hunts of my life up there and I officially quit hunting 3 years ago.....best decision I've made in a while. A piece of my heart is still up there but until the pressure slows down for bow season then it's just not fun anymore. I blame that...

Yancey will be a lot harder to hunt than you think.....the best time to hunt these "river" reserves are when the Mississippi is flooded up to the levee. Dry years like we've been having have the deer spread back out. Bayou Macon is another one that comes to mind....when the river is up to...

    Tuck tech folding kayak

I do still recommend it as long as you keep in mind it is not a solid kayak. If you are paddling next to someone who has a real kayak you will have to paddle twice as hard to keep up. I also had a buddy get one and returned it because he hated it. I personally love it; it gets the job done...

    LiDar Maps

Global Mapper will run you $500. Very nice software for the money and you can pretty much drag and drop files in and it’ll set the projection on the fly. They also have tons of help videos for it. If you have a college email address you should be able to request a school license for Autocad...

    LA - Deer Breeding Times

It can be useful but in the interior of the state it's actually more confusing! lol Interestingly enough, you can literally draw in Interstate 49 just based on this map. It is definitely a huge barrier for deer.
