National Tree Climbing Guide & Things to Ponder

Spikes damage trees. Using my WE Stepps to practice on a tree in my own yard had me thinking twice about using them. I've been using my tree work saddle and the hip thrust climb but it's too damn heavy & loud so I'm switching over to a Kite and using SRT & single stick.

National Tree Climbing Guide & Things to Ponder

I have a few seasons working & climbing with a few arborists. They all adhere to the belief that spurs are used when you are going to kill/ drop a tree. Any other canopy work is rope, bucket truck or crane.

    Rock Climbing Harness Saddle

That's an incredible price. I've been using my arborist saddle due to budget constraints. It is heavy, noisy & bulky to pack in but I can spend all day in it. I will be sewing my own saddle inclusive of a linemans belt & leg loops this winter to cut down weight ** I do not like hanging by...

    WTB expandables

Anything that needs a rubber band is not worth it to me. It's just one more thing to worry about/ go wrong. I like Grim Reapers for mechanicals but I'm using Muzzy Trocars this year, just because.

    No stick/ stepp climb

My WE Stepp order seems to be in limbo so I tested a few alternatives today. My favorite method is the web ladder in the attached video. I have to say that this kid is a hell of an athlete. I'm 6'1 210# and in pretty good shape, I run, ride, swim, lift & know how to climb..... but this web...

No sew knaider & aider $13

I picked up a 48" and a 24" rigging loop the other day at Sherrill Tree. Both are rated for 7000# breaking strength and 1400# safe working load. They were $8 & $5 + a package of Rit poly dye for $5. I looped to an old tie down strap hook for the knaider (?) + an old bungee to hold it at my...

Why a saddle over a climber for being mobile, but most of all being comfortable

I'm 52 & have a few years pruning trees via single rope and can't believe I didn't think of hunting out of my saddle before. I got tired of only hunting telephone pole trees with my Summit climber so this season I will be using my Miller Butterfly harness with the seat strap. If I can work all...
