Keeping carabiner in place while climbing with rappel line

I second this. Easy knots to tie and eliminate all metal hardware.

    Short Bridge

It looks a lot worse than it is once you start using it. I shortened mine quite a bit since I only use the second bridge for climbing and rappelling so I keep it fairly short. That cut down on the extra rope on the right side,

    Short Bridge

This requires you to learn a couple of new knots but it is worth the trouble. I hunted this bridge system this year and it works very well. Lets you stay connected to the tree for all operations. I used 8mm resc tech for the bridge and 5mm cord for the knots,

    Rappel rope questions

No. I use friction hitch and an ATC rather than a Madrock. I have used 8mm and 9.5 mm ropes and prefer the larger rope for use with 6mm friction hitch cords. The additional bulk is not an issue since I can still get 40 ft of the 9.5mm in the same pouch as I used for the 8mm. The 9.5 mm is a...

Sewing Machine Deals for the DIY Guys

I found this also since I posted. There is a video of a guy sewing 4 layers of leather so that's where I got the info. He also went through 4 layers of webbing with no problems.

Sewing Machine Deals for the DIY Guys

I was given a Singer 251-12 yesterday. From what I can find it is meant for leather so it should have no problem with webbing and saddle stuff. Anyone have experience with this machine?

Sewing Machine Deals for the DIY Guys

It was free but someone got to it before me. From what I read it does only zig zag but I think that would be fine if the pattern is tight enough.

Sewing Machine Deals for the DIY Guys

I did a search but came up empty. any opinions on a Consew 199R for saddle making? There is one available near me for a bargain.

    Non mechanical one sticking

I use this same system, works great. When using SRT on a preset tree I take the ATC out and use a chest ascender with a foot loop.

    Webbing tethers

Using this on your tether should not be a problem unless you are introducing slack. I used a similar set up for an adjustable bridge and had some issues. Look at comment #14 and #17 in the post below. https://saddlehunter.com/community/index.php?threads/one-stick-bridge.41801/#post-574641

    Need help with pack

I have the Venture 2300 and the Fanatic Jacket. You can stuff it in there but it takes up about half of the main compartment. There are plenty of straps to attack it to the front or side of the pack. This is a great pack but It does not have enough organizational pockets for the stuff I want...

    Downsizing/Simplifying Guidance

After trying many friction hitches, rope diameters and hitch lines. I settled on Canyon C IV as my tether/rappel line with TRC 6mm tied in a 5 wrap michoacan. I am not a big guy, 155#. This setup hold me with no slippage and I can release it easily with my full weight on it. You may need...

    SRT pre set sequence

This is exactly what I do on my preset trees.

    Cargo box vs. Badlands 2200

I have the Cargo Box. Great pack but I think it is a bit heavy for what you get. If you are not carrying a tree stand it is not worth the extra weight. Also will not accommodate a hydration bladder.

    Xop edge

I tried it. With my aider on the front edge I felt unstable. I moved the aider closer to the tree to get foot contact with the tree and had trouble getting around the platform. I would really like to use this platform as my climbing method so I would love suggestions on how to resolve either...

Dialing in your set up fails.

If your preset girth hitches around the main trunk you won't be able to get as high as the branch you threw your rope over. Bring an extra tether to hunt from our you will be uncomfortable with a really small tether angle.

Dialing in your set up fails.

There is a video showing this method. When you get to a foot or so to the end of your line wrap it around your figure 8 for a number of wraps and the last wrap goes underneath the previous one and cinches tight. Attach the tag end to your bow and clip the wrapped figure 8 to you. The tag end...

    SITKA CARGO BOX

I hunted with the Cargo Box and the Tool Box (discontinued). The Cargo box has plenty of room for the Fanatic jacket, my insulation layers and all my gear. I carry a lot of stuff. Lots of well thought out pockets. One thing I would change is add provisions for a water bladder. The only...

DIYish or just spring for the Ult. One Stick?

I bought a Hawk stick, added a cam cleat and their small platform to see how one sticking worked for me. I ended up buying the the Ultimate and keep the Hawk as a backup. The larger standoff on the Ultimate made one sticking much easier. I did replace the platform with a regular step and use...
