1 pound climbing sticks

100% agree! I think that’s why we are always changing things up. There are no clear cut best ways to climb a tree. Everything has trade-offs. Climbing trees is not a walk in the park and can be very difficult, no matter what the YouTube videos say!

Not to mention one doesn't have to climb a tree to hunt, or may not have a tree to climb.

This vid gives a cool side by side comparison, mostly focusing on time.

He should have installed a tether at hunting height on the 4-stick side as well as a bow lowering cord to be wrapped up at the base for a fairer comparison (since these necessary steps are built into the 1-stick method and take time).

In the end the time delta is minimal. The weight delta given modern stick weights and all the rappel gear weight is also minimal. Finally, the post above about the overall bulk packing minimal delta is well made.

That is an interesting video, thanks for sharing.

3 One’s is my setup so I’ll jump in. Approx 18’ with a single moveable aider. I’m also running a Predator platform. This setup packs pretty small & flatter than a dedicated stick. It also offers more platform room, but comes with about 3lbs extra weight.
What type of moveable aider are you using with the one sticks? I like a moveable aider, and aider compatibility is one thing that makes me hesitant to try the One Sticks.

Not sure what Cbigbear runs, but the GC-One aider works good as a removable or stand alone aider.

I run a 3 step on the bottom, and keep a 2 step in a dump pouch to use if I need to get higher.

Haha... yeah I get that side of it but one sticking is definitely is more work during the climb for the tradeoff of a light walk in... not worth it in my experience though ive only practiced 1 sticking enough to go "yeah, I ll just carry more sticks"

i haven't seen many comparisons where ALL the one sticking gear is weighed against something like 4 Tethrd One sticks with a carry as you go aider.

You have the one sticking stick, the larger aider with multiple steps, a madrock or some device, and then 30 to 50 feet of rope

i'm guessing the one sticking gear is at least 3 pounds total, although incorporating your platform into the top of the stick saves weight there

Good deal. Thanks for the picture. I like how you’ve got it placed on there. That’s what I typically use on other sticks. Glad to see you can make it work on those as well.
