2018 Live from the saddle....

Back at it tonight. I preset this spot back in turkey season. Man the walk in looked different!

Kill one this time would you!? Lol. I am just jealous of you getting to hunt. Our season opens in 2 weeks.

Are you done meat hunting because of your early success or out of range?

Depends. Right now I'll mostly just shoot does in the parks I hunt because they're management hunts. On the weekends I'm way back on state land and I'm in spots where I'm looking for bucks so I'll let the does walk. I could have shot 3 of the 6 last night. Had another nice doe give me a shot tonight. It was tempting but I know there is a couple big boys back there so I passed her up.

Hunted saturday night in the big woods. Was at full draw with a nice sized doe who decided to walk on the thick nasty side of a bush instead of the open side where I had her pegged at 18 yards. Oh well. Her two fawns were good sized for the time of the year so I had no worry about taking her if I had a good shot.

Used my mantis with my assault, so kind of live from the saddle right? Did about a 50/50 split between leaning in the saddle and sitting on my stand. Didn't bring out the predator yet. Still want some practice shooting from it before I hunt from it.

Worked great for climbing and hanging sticks. 10x better than the old rock climbing harness I used last year.

My aunt lives in Greenville and I’m from Erwin(FlagPond). I’ve lived in Fl for 13 years now but miss the mountains every day.
I've done quite a bit of huntin up that way on flat top (spivey mtn) and around Higgins creek.

Had my 1st saddle hunt this morning....Note to self....The wild edge steps don't work well on a tree with Vines. It just took a little longer to get up the tree. I was sitting on the edge of a swampy area overlooking some persimmons. About an hr into my sit I got pour on but had a good 1st sit otherwise.

I used to burn those places up when I was younger. Hunting Grannies Creeek or fishing up lower Higgins creek for natives. We grew up around Clear Branch and Rocky Fork. Nothing beats being able to park almost anywhere and walk for miles in hundreds of thousands of acres and never see another person. As fair as that goes even see sign of that another human other than a Native American

You all are making me jealous. Our season opened on the 15th here. Just about the same time work decided to get super busy. Still haven’t had a chance to get in a tree yet.
