2019 Deer Contest Team 6 Discussion

Took a shot on a buck after a rough morning sit...single digits. Luckily wind was reasonable until around 11. 1130-1145 I shot the buck back in the guts I suspect, so does the blood tracker that meeting me in the morning. I'll keep ya posted

No luck. Tracked him 500 yds with little to no blood and never bedded. Tracks went right into a river towards an island. I walked through the water to the island and not a single deer track on it so he either went swimming or doubled back. We walked our side of the river and didnt find anything and dog didnt pick anything up. Tracker said I probably hit him farther back closer to the thigh. Said hes never seen a gut shot not bed within 500 yds and still has the balls to go swimming.

I tried. Sucks I didn't get him. Lesson learned. Take all your winter stuff off before you shoot to not mess with your anchoring. I'll keep at it guys.

Bummer. Been there for sure. It sucks but keep grinding. I have had only one brief encounter with a shooter this season but had no clear shot. Still at it too.

I calculated impact of my anchor being moved a 1/4 and 1/2" at 20 and 25 yds. Learned my lesson. Rather than practice and tune for having gloves and everything on I'm just going to use a muff and keep my release hand glove less.

Skunked today. Tried the backyard this morning, something got my wind in the dark and ran off. Then a few does wouldn't give me a shot. Switched to public for the afternoon. Setup in a batch of pines, of course the deer came down wind, so switched my setup then a guy walked through with his climber 2 hrs before closing. Cant be mad cuz its public and in guilty of doing it myself, but 2 hrs before? Haha. Oh well. That was the last of my vacation days. Be all late season weekend from here on out

I’m back at it again this weekend heading up to my lease to try and sneak in at least an hour or two tonight and then hunt Saturday Sunday. I have an either sex day Saturday but for the next couple weeks in Virginia it’s bucks only. I need points since I’ve been doing a whole Lotta nothing this season for you guys and I need meat so Saturday somethings going down.

Jay, I shot my best ever buck last Sunday and couldn’t find it after an exhaustive search that included a tracking dog. I have been disgusted for for 5 straight days and haven’t slept much. The season isn’t over but my bottom lip is poking out really far.

My father in law is a big hunter and came over last night and said whats this I hear about you gut shot'n a deer, I was like I dont want to talk about it. :confused2:
