I can drive by today and see what it looks like. Only some of the targets hold water. I’ll let y’all know.

Hey guys, newbie here. Some may recognize my username from Aldeer if you're on there. I'm not sure yet if I can make it to the meet up. Any folks around BHM interested in showing me the ropes? (get it?). I have the stuff to build a sit drag and want to start next season.

You fellers mind if a few East TN boys show up? Looks like I can make it, and prolly drag my son and some others along.

I'm gonna being a bunch of homemade stuff...saddles, sticks and modified commercial stuff. 1 sticking and rappeling.

Looking forward to meeting you. Hope you along with other TN hunter can make it.

Welcome!

I’m in Cullman so not far from Bham. Send me a PM and I’ll try and catch up with you sometime. My username is gcr0003 on aldeer as well.

If you’re free to make it you should definitely come. You’ll have hands on access to a lot of gear.

I’m new to this too. I hope I can make it. I only live 20 minutes away. I have all my materials and rch ordered to make a fleece saddle. Also ordered a lone Wolf hand climber for a platform.

@gcr0003 ?
I am going to drive out to Point Mallard today and observe the parks flooding. Where are you planning on setting up the event? Were your plans over by the large pavilion or by the small one at the shooting range? Looks like there may be a good turnout. We will need plenty of table space to lay out some of the equipment so it will be easy for hunters review. Water can change a lot in a week, but I am curious how it looks today, I will report back on what find out.

The plan was the shooting range pavilion as it’s free and at the shooting range. I was going to drive to check the water yesterday but I got off work late. There is another pavilion that is bigger we could use instead and it’s $50 to reserve. I’ll check it out and we can make a call closer to the date.

(Shooting Range Pavilion)
There are 8 picnic tables total, 4 under pavilion 4 around targets. Water is only at the steps of the elevated stand, no other targets at the main range is effected. Some of the targets in the woods have water pooling others do not. @Nutterbuster & @swampsnyper should feel at home, you get to swamp target practice. Overall assessment it looks good.

And there are plenty of trees!

Thanks for checking it out for us @Kenbama Still looks good to me! I’d like to stay with this unless y’all think you’d rather have a bigger pavilion. There is a bigger pavilion that we can reserve just across the park if that is the case.

WHEN: Feb 22 10-2pm
UPDATE: I went ahead and picked a location for the meet-up (which isn't an official event). Point Mallard Park Archery Range. There is a pavilion that is free to use first come first serve. The water park is not open in February so there is typically not a lot of traffic at the park anyway. If you want to shoot at the range see below.

License Requirement
  • For Alabama residents, a valid hunting, heritage, fishing, or WMA license is required for all range users between the ages of 16-64.
  • For nonresidents, a valid WMA license is required for all range users age 16 or older.
I envision us doing any kind of climbing demonstrations in the woods adjacent to the range but we can play it by ear.

INPUT NEEDED: Would yall like to have lunch while you're here? Catered or cooked? Let me know. If there is enough interest I'll get a quote for bbq or something; otherwise, we can just cookout or eat after.

FREE RAFFLE IDEA: I plan on putting together maybe a t-shirt or two from @Jefferson10940 @redsquirrel some odds and ends from @DanO, or other saddle related gear, nothing top dollar to give away. If you're interested in helping out with this, simply bring/buy a small item to contribute to the raffle give away (kinda like dirty santa, Wait! are we doing dirty santa?!). A good contribution might be a tether or LB that is in like new condition or prussics, tenders, caribiners etc. There are some expensive aspects to saddle hunting, but there is also some critical gear that can be had pretty inexpensively. I think if we have any new users attend we might be able to get some cool things in there hands to start out. If you plan to bring an item message me what it is so I can keep a list of who is bringing what.

TELL YOUR FRIENDS:
Tell your buddies who are still hunting out of their summit vipers to come check us out.

POST IT UP:
Let me know below what set up (climbing and saddle) you will be bringing. For example: 3 Lone Wolf sticks, AeroHunter Kestrel. I'd like to have an idea of what all will be represented.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO LEAVE BUT YOU CAN'T STAY HERE:
Actually you can! There are 6 Primitive camp sites (but not really primitive because I believe they have water/electric hook ups and I know they have bath houses) at Point Mallard Campground. Reserve your's today. Its a great place. I lived there for 2 years.

WHEELER HUNTING: See Alabama Rules and Laws for details....
