2022 Turkey Hunting Thread

Would you be against one of the more stretchy on your face material face gaiters masks. They are made of super thin material. for summertime fishing and they have them in camo and I find them very cool. I wear them in the summer in Alabama to block sun etc.
I'm open to any masks that breathes and is cooler than what I have now.

Might not be mossy oak obsession or other Turkey favorites but It’ll do the same thing. I’m only recommending this brand because I’ve used it before. There are a ton of neck gaiter/face mask fishing companies that probably have the pattern you desire.

Yup. I worked on the water as a deckhand/captain in Ft Lauderdale and Miami for years. HOT and HUMID and no shade on the boats. But those masks are worn by everybody. The only people not wearing the masks were the crustiest sun worshiper captains. We wore them for skin protection not camo but they are great in the heat. MY favorite brands (trust me it makes a huge difference) were BUFF and Costa Del Mar but i dont think costa makes a good camo pattern. There's some brand online that sells em for real cheap i think its like SA Fishing or something and Bass pro has their own brand too. They both suck dont waste your money. Cant breathe, not soft, dont stretch and get hot. I still wear them for hunting

I don’t put my gloves and mask on until I strike up a Turkey and get set up. Is this a bad idea? Y’all wearing everything as you’re walking and stuff? You would sho enough burn up that way.

I try to stay covered up at all times and glass every 10-50 yards if I am moving. Sometimes I will pull the face mask just below my nose.

I feel like we get busted way more than we think/know.

Camo buffs are awesome. I'm on my third one over the years. The previous 2 served faithfully up until they met their demise as emergency butt wipes.

The knock offs aren't as good. They're made wirh a different material and a lot of times the way the print the fabric impedes breathability.

Just paint your face. No mask needed! Haha. Sometimes the mask keeps the bugs at bay.

I've used buff's, different camo face masks and they were all a bit warm but I am not sure you can really get around it not trapping heat when its covering up part of your head and mouth. I am using the Apex hoody from Sitka which has a face mask built it to it. I usually was wearing my mask around my neck since it was light and didn't make me hot until it got up into the 80's. I bought the hoody so it was one less thing I didn't have to worry about forgetting, etc.

if i call its always from a spot i can sit down and shoot from now. always! eventually youre gonna be in a spot near a tom and get busted.
I always keep my gloves on and pull my mask up when i sit. those mesh masks are better for when its hot out. We dont have to worry much about that in MD though until late season afternoons. Im usually shivering opening morning. 2 yrs ago we got 3" of snow in may.
Our opening last year was SO WINDY I was shaking from being cold. I was with my dad and at one point he was like "you ok?". I remember saying "I am not having much fun right now". LOL. So windy you couldn't hear one from 80 yards I bet that day, at least where we were.

I need a recommendation on the best hot weather facemask for turkey hunting. I'm dying in my current one
I bought a boonie hat with the mesh mask that drops down and is really loose. It isn't hot at all.

Boy! Another tough day with the constipated birds. I ended up seeing one hen at 11:00 AM. I kept trying to convince myself I heard drumming but I am just about deaf to that frequency of sound so who knows? It's not so much turkey hunting as it is armed deer scouting, lol. I have not heard a single gobble all season. Not one. I hope you guys have better luck.

Anyone have much success with a crossbow? Specifically the Hickory Creek Mini. During the week I'm restricted to bow only in an area I've seen this Tom I'm after. I'm planning on going after him tomorrow to beat the shotgunners that will be lined up on Saturday.

I'm up in new Jersey for the last couple days and there are turkey everywheres.....almost as many turkey as deer. U guys up here are in a very target rich environment....
You got work up this way? The last thing I think of when I hear New Jersey is turkey hunting

I met family members I've never met before.....I have a cousin that has access to a 4k acre farm/nursery and he invited me to come up and hunt next season....hopefully it wasn't just a kind gesture
