2023 Fishing Thread

Walleye opener here is Saturday, have a buddy coming up from Pittsburgh to turkey hunt in the AM and possibly hit the Allegheny in the PM. Might try to get out Sunday afternoon for a bit alone, hit my little money hole in a backwoods walk in only access lake, then hit the river for walleye at sundown.

If you want too, let me know. I will send you box full of crap to get you started. I used to tie all my crappie jigs but havent messed with that stuff in a few years.
I actually just started tying some marabou jigs for crappie, they seem to out fish the plastic jigs sometimes.

So...who ties flies?
I bought a cheap vise and took a local weekend course to get started, just to learn a few techniques. This was before I could Youtube everything. It doesn't take much to get started, but if you go down the rabbit hole of getting specific materials it can get expensive. I enjoyed using stuff I had lying around and making up my own patterns. I saved money tying the easy patterns like wooly buggers, elk hair caddis or easy dry flies, and nymphs and zebra midges. The harder dry fly patterns took too long, but then again, I did it in the winter before kids when I actually had time lol.

It's pretty cool to fool a fish on a fly you tied yourself--enjoy the process!

Saddle Hunter is a hilarious forum.

Everyone else... I want to sit in a giant comfy stand, shoot enormous deer with mega antlers, and catch giant piggish bass.

Saddle Hunters... I want to stand on a tiny micro platform, shoot deer with milk still on their lips, and catch tiny panfish.

Not judging, just observing. :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy:

They dont let just any ol' jackwagon redneck in here, you need some measure of refinement. I mean I shoot wood sticks with real turkey feathers( prolly bare minimum for entry) and @Nutterbuster is makin his own gerber baby fish bait to put on hooks a chigger could swallow and pitchin it around with his new fly pole. @Ckwilli is catchin 'em on a piece of yarn snipped off his ghille suit looks like to me. Refinement. ;)

yep, its an old one. 89' lowe ,motor is a 92'merc, ive had it 23 yrs. had a smaller jet before that.
I’m trying to set up a jet. Found a good Seaark in the weeds and got a deal on it. Really wanted a tunnel but guess I’ll do without. Going to put a 60/40 tiller outboard jet on it for the shallow rocky rivers close to me
