Right, oysters are soft. polypores like the one in your pics are usually pretty firm almost like theyre made of wood. Not sure what species but i wouldnt eat it.That one was not soft at all.

careful... i know youre doin spore prints before you do anything silly but be 1000% sure man. pinch a few spots on them and look for blue bruising. It shouldnt take too long. Do people find them around you or have you personally found them before? what kind of environment did you find them growing in? Ive read they are pretty rare outside of the northwest states. Maybe try looking for P. Ovoideocystidiata in mid-spring and sometimes fall if youre into that kind of thing. Probably will have more luck.Found in my yard. Pretty sure these are P. semilanceata? Any input? Spore print will be waiting when I get home.

Melted into goo sounds like inky caps. you can eat those but theyre not worth the trouble imo. Lbm's are sketchy.I'm not eating them. They were growing in a grassy areas I don't mow often. Spore prints were inconclusive I had to leave them for a couple days and they just kinda melted into a goo. Not really ready to wade into LBMs but they piqued my curiosity. I followed my #1 rule don't wish something into existence!
