That is fantastic. I don't tie any dry flies, mostly because I don't get much opportunity to use them, and partly because I'm a horrible tyer. Is that mostly mallard or wood duck? (other than the hackle)

Stocker rainbows love my half-assed nymphs, worm, and egg patterns.

Yep. It's just a single woodie flank and a hackle. Google up the two feather or Darby dry. Easy tie.

Have you had any luck with foam grasshoppers? That’s what the guy at bass pro sold me and said they were his favorite… but they seem a bit large and didn’t seem like anything really wanted it. What else (dry fly wise) do you use for topwater round here?

My favorite dries are size 8 or 10 amnesia bugs in yellow or blue. And small parachute adamses or blue wing olives.

Foam grasshoppers are great, however they have their time. Later in the season when the yound of the year grasshoppers are bigger and stupid they work great, especially if you have a stream that goes through fields or grasslands. They are good for bigger water as a dry and dropper setup since they can float high on the water even with a hefty beadhead under them. Also fish in faster water have less time to analyze them so its split second take it or not (usually take it).

I don't know your streams, but a parachute adams in a 12-14 is always a solid shout. It floats low in the film and fish take it as an emerger or dry that's struggling. Its generic enough in color to work with most any mayflies. A stimulator or elk hair caddis is a good option, but I always preferred a haystack for both caddis and mayfly purposes. If you tie yourself (i used to) keep a couple colors in your box and you can get away with it as your primary dryfly everywhere.
