2024 Gear thread

You're right. Porcupines have been rampant lately. They ate a lot of stands last year and I need to send a message.
Me no afford grizzly hunt.
Ive wanted a 50 bmg or something similar. I don't have room in the house for another press I would need to load 50 cal, but I can reload for the 460.

It's actually a really neat cartridge to reload for. I am in fact going to use for deer as I can make loads nearly identical to a 45-70. After all, it's essentially a 45-70 roided out.
Great rifle, congratulations! I bet with full house loads it will get your attention. I've never shot a 460 WM but I have shot a 470 Nitro a dozen or so times and hundreds of 458 Lott rounds in 9 pound rifle. I was helping a friend do load work up and prep for an African Safari about 7 or 8 years back and we really gave the elephant guns a workout. In the Lott, there is a marked increase in felt recoil going from 2150 fps to 2250 so I can just imagine what adding 200 to 300 more feet per second would do.

That is the great thing about these big cartridges is that you can easily download them to 45-70 levels and use them for deer.

Exactly. I wanna try these. Gotta get confirmation from them if I can shoot in my gun. I have a hunt booked to isla nublar next year for T-Rex1000048114.jpg1000048115.jpg

I sent Cruzr a e mail asking about the climbing sticks.
The reply is they still plan on coming out with some sticks, no date given.

New 4mm components that seem decent. Comes in different weights and materials.

Interesting idea. Big space saver if you’re more into that than the lighter weight options.

$110 with no attachment method…

Those of us at the 2021 Michigan Saddle Hunter's get together were given an early peek the prototype of this by Brandon. We all thought it was pretty innovative at the time. It's good to see he's found a path to market. He's a personable young man from northern Michigan. I just wish my old senile self could remember his user name here. :tearsofjoy:

Their is a video of this on the tube. It made a popping noise when you climbed on it.
Not sure what problem it solves.

I’ve seen some guys saying for years they value compactness and packability over weight. I’m not a stick guy anymore but I think this is an interesting attempt to satisfy those guys request.

Although, I heard the popping noise also in that video and that will be a deal breaker for many.

I’m in that boat. I could honestly careless about weight savings. Heck, best way I can cut weight is off my own body. But compact… that’s the only reason I got into saddle hunting in the first place. Was tired of getting my climber hung on brush in thick pines/cover. Sticks worked better but still not perfect. So far, bolts have been great and likely will go 2TC next year. But these sticks, they likely would’ve been in my shopping cart had they been available 3 years ago.

I'm really sure the flexing in the video wouldn't bother me, but I know others are uncomfortable with that. The popping is pretty disappointing, I wonder if that'll sort of "wear in" and stop ? I think it's a heck of a platform even with those flaws. I didn't experience popping when I tried one out, fwiw.

This is a half assed way to attach the post to the platform. That is called being cheap. The cost of drilling a hole is more than slotting the platform then capturing a pin using a plastic plate with #10 screws. No thanks. That’s where the popping is coming from. Loctite ain’t gonna do crap to fix that. Go back and build it properly. Not to mention when folded how far the button sticks through the bottom of the platform. Hard pass on that one.
