2025 Getting/Staying In Shape Motivation Thread

Track intervals on Tuesday for 7.3 miles

Slept through 4 alarms this morning and didn’t get my run in. Guess I needed the sleep. Haven’t done that in a long time. Hoping to make up some of it tonight and then sprinkle some extra distance on each run the next week or so. Don’t have time to make it up the next 2 weekends

Hoping to get 5 miles in tomorrow morning
14 is the goal Saturday morning

Been a crazy couple weeks with work. Finally was able to get an easy 3.6 mile run in at 4:30am, this morning. There is just something about running early in the morning on a main road with no traffic. So relaxing… until a deer or raccoon runs out in front of you and the heart rate goes sky high!!

anyone here ruck for conditioning?
did 2 miles today with 25lbs in a pack, was too easy. curious if i need a dedicated backpack or if I could use my ALICE pack?
May I suggest the Bataan Death March Memorial run next year? It's in New Mexico and made for rucking!

Realized I wouldn’t have time for my 5 easy tomorrow so combined that with the 6 I missed today for 11 tempo-ish miles. 1:38. 820 foot of gain. 1,220 calories burned
This and some life stuff wrecked my Saturday goal of 14. Got in 11. Entire run felt crappy. Including my unscheduled portapot visit

Plan this week:
- Tuesday 3 or 4 tempo with mile warm up and cool down
- Thursday 4 or 5 easy miles
- Saturday 50k relay with 2 buddies. Should be 2 laps for me so around 10.5 miles. Hoping to keep my loops under 45mins

Plans for tonight got changed so I did my tempo run tonight instead of tomorrow morning so I can sleep in tomorrow. Figured I’d shoot for a 5k tempo. Mile warm up and cool down. Garmin connect tells me 22:43 for the 5k portion…
Edit: balls! Nike Run Club tells me I ran a 22:43 5k in 2016 where my 5k Saturday was 23:50. That was back when I hated running but was ripped, not a dad, and not old lol. New goal activated
… strava tells me 22:44 lol. 22:43 just taunting me in Nike Run Club. Still, cut 66 seconds off the time from a few weeks ago. One hill in the last mile kicked my ass. Think I can run 22:30 if I start smarter but just gonna keep the multi year plan in my brain and see how quick we can get in the long term. Looking forward to an easy run Thursday before some fun Saturday

My best laid plans also went sry, squeezed in a half hr on the treadmill last night and then took my kids to the zoo today so did many miles of walking around with my dad backpack there, but no running. Track workout tomorrow, likely reduced because of 10k race on Saturday, then after race is done I think I'm going to jump back into building for a marathon distance race this fall again. Haven't picked one yet but likely doing a smaller one, Amica Newport (RI) being the lead so far, likely make a weekend trip out of it.

Could do marine corps again but I kinda like the idea of something new/different and maybe someday I'll join the marathon in all 50 states club, I've got MD and VA covered already just 48 to go lol. I think people that pull that off do like 5+ a year though, would have to pick up the pace.

Shorter track workout earlier tonight, 6x400 repeats w/400 jog recovery. Accidentally left my watch in mile laps so ran a bit too fast pacing by feel but felt pretty good over all. Watch is down to 50:04 prediction for the 10k Saturday so I'm going to just send it and hope for the best. Longer term goal is to run a marathon at this pace (or faster?) so might as well just see where my fitness is at this week
