Alice Pack

I have packed a few deer out with a Molle II frame. It worked well. I currently use an MR popup because I like to have my pack with me during the hunt but, if I was planning on going back to my truck after a kill I would have stuck with the Molle pack. I peiced mine together from eBay for around $60.

Doesn't look like any alice pack I've ever seen, for sure.

Its for sure a modified version but the pack itself looks like a Medium ALICE. The frame certainly isn't GI nor are some of the padding and straps but from what I can tell in the pic, the pack itself looks like legit.

Just placed an order for the Frame, Pack, and Straps listed earlier.

Looking forward to getting these in.
I bought a MR Pintler to use last year, but I hated carrying a bag to the tree just in case, so I think this set up is going to be the way to go.

I appreciate all the input.

I've humped a lot (non-military hunting and camping) in my ALICE pack and I find them extremely comfortable. I also find them no noisier than a lot of the military grade stuff out there. I used a MR Treehouse last year and that was just as noisy as my ALICE pack, plus, who cares how noisy the pack is when your hauling out meat? The hunt is over, now the wet work begins right. I'm never too concerned about that when the deer is down. For durability and for meat hauling especially, you probably need something with the tougher cordura or nylon packcloth like that of the ALICE and MR packs to hold up over time and resist staining.

Frame & Straps came in today.
Pack should be in next week.

After putting the straps on I decided I needed the waist belt so I ordered it as well.

Great option. Cheap, Rugged, Effective.
I run the Canadian Forces equivalent, or a larger US army bag. I got each of them for ~$50. They both kickass.

1- Molle II Rucksack Frame (Green or Tan), for Official ACU or Multicam Large Ruck https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003P6BHOE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_06ZXK12R72SRR37NBPTH

2-

3- MOLLE II Enhanced Shoulder Straps, Desert Camo, Army Surplus https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CHSR1C8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_0S8FJQ2SRS8JTSSYHMAR

With these three items I built an awesome frame pack for cheap. I will say the shoulder straps are expensive right now for some reason on Amazon. I had mine from way back from carrying a summit stand around with them so I didn’t need to purchase the shoulder straps. So in total I think I spent $50 for a lightweight frame pack.

I can post a picture if your interested in seeing the finished product. The Handi-pack from wilderness packs is sweet and it’s custom built for this exact frame.

I’ve also been playing around with using the whole thing as a back rest while saddle hunting. It’s basically half of a JX3. And it’s very comfortable... just not sure I want that much bulk on me yet.

This!! I'm a newb and just bought all of my first setup and started looking around for what to carry it with. Im sure it's great quality for 300+ but unnecessary for me in NC.... I'm definitely doing this.

I want to see it!

I’m glad it provided some inspiration. Here are some pics of my set up. I am going to no stick climb with the EDP, I have all my gear/calls and 40’ of rope in the fanny. I also have bungee readily available if I need to carry extra clothes.

Not positive yet but I’ll likely leave the frame pack on the ground while I hunt. I want to see if it effects deer movement in the early season so that’s still up in the air.

It’s really nice tho because this distributes weight nicely, I can get my platform and Fanny off very quickly with the click of a buckle, and I have my meat-hauling pack with me if I get lucky.

And of course the best part is..the price!

Got my handi-Pak in recently.
Once I strap that on, I’ll have mine completed.

Man, the prices on surplus rucksacks, frames and shoulders have gone up a bit since I bought one 3 years ago. My son permanently borrowed that one for his camping trips, now I need another, and the best I can do on ebay is $65. I think I paid $40 for the first one.

I have a lot of history using an ALICE pack to transport deer quarters from the kill spot to the vehicle. My first fieldquartering was done in 1977. Started using a medium size ALICE pack, without the frame, in 1982. Since then I've packed out over 285 deer with the ALICE pack.

Even though I now have a better quality pack I still prefer to use the ALICE pack. I have the frame for it but don't use it because it's too ridged and I like the pack to be felixable.

Is that a kill counter on your bow in tally marks? That is impressive. I might have to start doing that.

Respect.

Yes, from my first bow through my last one, I've marked every kill on them (280 total). That picture was taken in 2005. It's my go-too bow since 1994..... I've added a few more kill marks on it since then. Just another way to journal.

Much respect Sir! Are you going to be able notch several more this year? I'm only 58 and arthritis is starting to sneak up on me......I'm gonna push as long as I can. (Not to derail this thread!)

Derail away, haha. That’s very impressive.
I switched to a recurve recently and hope to have at least 1 tally before the season ends.

Thank You. We never know what the season will offer. But, at 77, I'll still be trying.
