Amsteel not wanting to come out of CamCleat

I used some 7mm accessory cord on my previous climbing stick with a harken 150 cam cleat and I could pull it out easily while 1 sticking.

Purchased a BIG B.O.B on here from another user and tried it out today. It has an amsteel rope on it and I could not get it to pull out easily without really pulling hard on it. The 7mm accessory cord I could pull it out softly and quietly no troubles. Anybody have this trouble, or have any tips for it? It’s almost like one jaw of the cam cleat just really digs in to the amsteel when I try and pull on it.

Love the stick by the way, super solid to stand on, the large top step was great for adjusting my tether while climbing, and the stick was rock solid on the tree when going up as well.

Only issue I had with the harken is the loud snap closed so I wrapped paracord through and that solved it. Good luck.

I took the back plastic cover off of the back of the Harken cleat and glued 2 small pieces of silicon rubber tubing inside both guide tracks to prevent the metal to metal contact that causes the noise. It works great.

It’s definitely internal but I was afraid to disassemble. The cord is working but I might try that post season

Really nothing to them, just open it up over a big bowl or Tupperware because ball bearings may go everywhere. There’s a video on YouTube on how to rebuild them.

You can pop off the back plate easily without any parts falling out. There are 2 C-shaped coil springs that are very easy to remove and reinstall. It is very easy to super-glue a couple of small pieces of rubber where the 2 pieces of metal make contact. It takes care of the noise problem.

The ball-bearings don't fall out when removing the bottom plate.

No but if you accidentally pop one of the cleats off they definitely will. Tried taking the first one I had apart without watching a video, needless to say I had to order new ball bearings lol. Super easy to put back together tho

That looks perfect. What size tube did you use, do you remember?
It is some peep sight tubing that I keep on hand. I just cut off a small piece and then cut it in half. It appears to be around a 3/16 diameter. Here is where I bought it.

Whoops, I meant 3/16" tubing so I corrected it.

Thanks!
