Any interest in a SRT video?

It took me a few climbs to find the sweet spot with the length of the foot loop. Once I got that dialed in ascends are much smoothly and kept me from to much side to side movement. Just my .02...

I'm a complete rookie as well. I was free ascending in open space so no where to brace my foot against. I later saw a video where the SRT climber had a loose loop around his neck with a carabiner that the ascending rope passed through to keep his body more vertical so the leg pressure could be downwards so have greater climbing effect. I took my climbing stick aider made from webbing which I decided not to use for now and looped it three times to form a neck loop which I will try on my next SRT attempt. I will not try anything stupid. Maybe a chest loop is safer.

Please don’t attempt this.

As others have said: never loop anything around your neck when climbing. You may not live to regret it. This applies to any climbing method. I see some folks place there moveable aider around their neck while climbing to the next stick/step. If you need to hang a loop off of you for whatever reason, always put an arm through so you don't strangle yourself.

Notice I did think of the downside to this. I am a old time Murphy's Law disciple. "What can go wrong will go wrong."
I did see a video of someone who looked like they knew what they were doing, doing this.
I used to work with a guy and many times I have said, "that ladder doesn't look safe" , just before it slipped with him up a few rungs or are you sure the electricity is turned off?

Question for you experts - how much throw line do you carry?

45ft of Weaver yellow stuff right now. I'm going to be testing some 100lb 3 strand bow fishing line soon though.

I do a figure 8 with my thumb and pinky. Packs really small
I tried that and couldn't keep my ring finger out of the way. I do a figure 8 around my 4 fingers and my thumb. Seems to work as well. Faster for me.

So I’m still practicing from my trusses at low height but I got the hollow auto block now but my instinct is to squeeze tighter when I want to slow down instead of ease up. My fear is this is from my previous tries prior to auto block where I was just manually grabbing the rope. Any tricks to quit or just more practice? Prior to auto block I felt ready to go higher but not any more.

Has anyone tried SRT with a prussic knot up top with a foot loop attached, then an ascender attached to the bridge of the saddle? I already have an ATC to rappel down with and was just trying to figure out the cheapest way to climb. And would 6mm cord be safe enough for the prussic?

I'm definitely not an expert, but I have 50' of line. If I could do it again, I'd probably get another 10 feet. With that said...I have found that I can extend the length of my rope by utilizing my throw line....so my 50' has been working just fine.

It's not bad at all. I'm in pretty good shape but it's just standing and sitting over and over again until you reach your hunting height
Kind of like going to church except that they add in kneeling but the standing and sitting thing, yes. I am trying this today. Looks like fun

Did you find the optimal length of your foot loop to be longer or shorter than you anticipated?

Have not really did this beyond 2’ in my house but longer for sure. Trying it today in a tree

I made a chest harness out of 1 inch webbing to hold me more vertical. Works great.

So I one sticked up my tree last night and forgot to put my retrieval rope on when I rappelled down. So I left it for the night bought a petzel hand ascender today. Watched Jamie’s video several times and went up the tree with no practice. Not a great idea but I have been rappelling and I am familiar with the equipment and all my kids are ice and rock climbers. I may set some para cord up trees next fall

@JCLINE84

Thanks for the excellent video
It made the whole process easy
