Ar build

This 1s.been a minute....
So...I ordered a complete upper and officially started getting ready to put 1 together. I ended up going with 350legend.....I have no experience with it other than utubes but the reason I chose was because every time I've been to a store that sold ammo during this ammo shortage 350 boxes are in plentiful supply. I'll post up pics as I get it all put together....

Good round, I agree too.... that's the only ammo you ever see on the shelves if there is any at all. Absolutely no kick, great round for kids and others too who don't want to deal with recoil. And let's be honest, who really wants to deal with recoil????

Sold the ammo with the upper, can't remember exactly but it was about as heavy as you could go in the 6.8.

hmm....your experience with the 6.8 is disappointing....i always thought about getting an upper in that caliber....is it possible that range and bullet weight caused the bullet not to expand? in some cases, a lighter bullet/less heavily constructed is preferable on deer-sized game

my brother insists on 180 grain round nose bear loads in his 30-06 deer gun....and my 100 and 120 grain pills out of my 25-06 drop deer way quicker than his setup....he punches holes and they run....mine is bang-flop-wow that deer's organs look like puddin'

What brand did you get? I just put my first together. I like the idea of getting a 350 upper for it. Legal to hunt in S.michigan with it. Your building the whole upper? What did all the parts run? I see pre assembled ones on bear creek for less than 300. But heard mixed reviews on them. Want to follow along with your build and see if I want to try it.

Bear creek complete upper ...my boss and the boss in the electrical department are gun nuts....between the 2 of them they built probably over 20 now. 1 buys high dollar and the other goes lower end....the low end stuff is just as good as the high end is their consensus.... Palmetto complete lowers are 120 bucks...cheaper to buy that than get an 80%+parts

From what I’ve heard, it’s a great round out to 200 yards or so. Check out Bear Creek Arsenal. They are making some high power loads for the AR that might give you some extra range. Make sure you get the ones for the AR because they make some really potent rounds that you can only put in a bolt gun

I’ve built at least 100+ AR’s throughout my military and civilian life and I can firmly say just bc some of the parts are cheaper doesn’t make them cheap, they’re just inexpensive to make. I have a $2k DDV7 that I love for obvious reasons but I’d take my <$600 PSA’s or Aero’s any day of the week. Unless you’re an operator or do shooting competitions where you’re going through thousands of rounds a week then going high price for everything is just downright dumb. Big things to spend money on is the BCG and and optics but you can get a high end one that’s DLC coated for under $200. As far as the rounds you mentioned I can’t say, I stockpile, which is something you can’t do with any of those rounds so they’re useless to me. 5.56 for hogs out to 500 yds is all you need and can be done with any 5.56 platform. Now if you’re going with an SBR then the 5.56 will lose a good bit of velocity but I bet if you ask the hog the difference between 2700fps and 2300fps he doesn’t know. Just something to think about, I see so many average gun toters spending ridiculous amount of money on stuff they never put to full use. Save yourself some money and me a headache lol but as I always say take all opinions with a grain of salt (even mine) and to each his own. You can’t really go wrong with anything you buy. Stay frosty.

You'll be happy with it, that's a good set up.

PSA= palmetto state armory
DDV7= Daniel Defense V7 AR
BCG= bolt carrier group (the assemly that goes in the upper and it grabs, inserts round into barrel, ejects and also firing pin housing)
DLC= DINA LITE COATING OR DIAMOND LITE COATING (special coated BCGs)
SBR= short barrel rifle ( any rifle with barrel under 16”, requires tax stamp)
FPS= feet per second

I see a lot of “competition” barrels and chambers. Are they worth the extra money? I’m not entering any completions, but would like to kill a pronghorn at 700 yards. I’ve been looking at a 6.5 Grendel for a while

Depends. With a 6.5 you can make that shot with almost any barrel, would a competition barrel make it easier? Of course, is it worth the extra money, well that up to you. But for that application idk what your pronghorn opportunity is like but I would just rent a rifle for a hunt like that. That way I wouldnot spend all this money building 6.5 Grendel and only use it once a year to snipe a pronghorn. Which by the way you can do with a good ol’ .308 or 338 Lapua. Idk where this push for these huge rounds came from but unless your a sniper or have a dying passion to shoot long distance 6.5 is overkill for most.

I realize that there is probably better caliber choice but the fact that it's been on the shelf every single time I've been by a store who sells stuff like that it's been there.....they're outta 22, 270, 3006 and 12ga but that 350legend is there. With the uppers only 250+/- bucks or swapping with my coworkers it'll all work out good.
