Attachment mod for Predator

Amsteel mod is the solution my friend. Got so sick of always landing in between loops on the versa strap. was never tight

sure man. spliced the loop. wrap around the tree from your left, around the tree and to your right.. bring it across the front of the stick, under the left side of the amsteel and cinch behind the button. cinch this TIGHT. then wrap twice around the button. 2 half hitches. and set the stick. wont move an inch

pics of the sticks

Stick? The thread is about a platform. I had no issues with stability of sticks with an Amsteel mod but it was a different story with the Predator. The Amsteel was not as stable as with a cam buckle.

Same process exactly. I just make sure to tighten hard with the platform up. if the bark is slick or wet. you might need to use your feet to lift the platform and cam again

When you side load the platform or moving around ontop it needs to be tight or it can move. Sticks are different you are just going straight up on them.

I used Amsteel daisy chain on my Predator last season. Wrap the Amsteel around the tree, turn the Predator 90 degrees, attach using the closest loop and turn Predator upright. Push down on the post then cam down the Platform. Turning the platform before attaching usually allows you to get an extra loop.

It’s not as tight as the buckle, but I like that it’s quieter and less bulky (weight is negligible).

I did this when I had a predator and it worked quite well with a daisy chain. I also made my daisy loops just big enough for the predator button, I think 1.5” if I remember right and it allowed for better fitting. Never had an issue and like Amsteel better than cam straps. Shooter preference.

I switched to amsteel and then the versa strap. The toe hook works really well if you do it right.

*IMPORTANT* I had a really scary experience when I attempted my second toe hook at height. I was completely set up and after an hour or two into my sit the top teeth of my predator were coming off the tree slightly. I attempted a toe hook and the second I lifted the platform it dropped (similar to falling with a loose lineman belt) and I was hanging from my tether. My ropeman was holding all my weight. The platform was about a foot below me. I couldnt reach it. I couldn't get any slack from my tether/ropeman because it was under load. I was almost stuck just hanging there. Lucky my WE step was right next to my platform and I was able to get my toe on it somehow and get enough pressure off the ropeman to drop down and retrieve my platform. I never read about this and now I always keep an extra step nearby in case of any failure. I also decided on one sticking with a safeguard, Ill always be able to rappel now if need be.

I am going back to cam buckle this year for predator after running daisy chain webbing (aka versastrap) all last season on it. There is too much fiddle factor to get the daisy chain webbing the right length so the predator does not sag or shift under weight. Cam buckle is simply much easier to setup and use.

I prefer the stock strap and buckle. It just gets so rock solid that idc about the few ounces extra that it weights. However, with sticks, the versa straps work great.
