Beast Stand

You can change the platform depth, width, and seat height. You can change the size of the seat. You can add pads until it feels like you're sitting on air. You can change everything you'd like about a hang on stand, and you will not be able to impact the single biggest factor in comfort in using a hang on - You can't adjust the angle or distance of the tree from the top/back of the seat.

I've hunted almost exclusively in a JX3 on a ring of squirrel steps since I got the first proto in 2018. At no point did I compromise comfort or maneuverability. The system can be dialed in to about 125% the weight of a normal close to truck saddle setup, and 105% of a trekking deep setup.

I say both of these things as a person who still owns hang ons, and on occasion has a need for them.

But they're both statements of fact, not opinions.

On a hybrid setup, say a Beast stand for sake of this thread, I can move to a position over 20" away from the tree. You don't sacrifice that maneuverability with your JX3 setup because you don't want or need that I suppose. Some of your facts are relative to you I guess is the point. Not that you're hiding that, just I think its worth noting that not everyone is Kyler1945.

I do agree that the JX3 has more seat positional flexibility than what is offered on many stands. That doesn't mean there aren't stands that don't offer me all the comfort I want.

A good, well fitting saddle provides a great deal of positional flexibility as well. Is a standard saddle "JX3 comfortable", probably not (I'd say maybe not even close except others have stated they found JX3 uncomfortable). Does a standard saddle keep knees off trees, no (probably the #1 pro of JX3 IMO). But, is a standard saddle uncomfortable, I don't think so, which is why I've gravitated towards the hybrid model.

It is true that my assessment that cast / machined platform seats are quite uncomfortable is my experience of them. I do hear lots of others who share that opinion. I believe there could be improvements to the seat setup, which would could curb that general consensus. To what degree, and at what cost in weight / bulk / expense, IDK.

The JX3 remains a fine option for comfort in a saddle, but I still don't think I'd be comfortable archery hunting from one. I think others have had that experience.

Let’s keep this on track fellas. No since in arguing saddle vs stand, it’s all subjective. Also, no since in arguing the patent or Dan and Andrae. It’s business, that’s what happens in business. Dating all the way back to the beginning of the industrial revolution.

If you don’t wish to read about tree stands then don’t click on the thread. I scroll past 90% of the treads because I’m not interested in reading about them. That simple.
