Best Sticks to use.

I'm kinda short legged and have a bad knee so mine are a little short at 22 inch overall 19.5 between steps. I used 1" X 0.065" 6061 T6 and I use plastic spacers in everything that has a bolt I only drilled holes in the front side to reduce weight not the sides( could have just lazy). I call them my DanOMite Mini's LOL!

DIY......1.2 pounds with extra long rope...add a 5 step aider...4 of these makes 28 feet easy! At sub 5 pounds!

I have most of the same parts. You're weight is crazy low! I have 24" though and Alumibuttons, half aluminum spacers and half nylon.
My 4 weigh 7 lbs with woven webbing straps on them.
Love 'em!

I noticed you were on the Muddy in your recent "Live from the saddle" post.

I'm the same way. Always tinkering and changing!

I do think the S.O. stick is better to stand on than the Muddy (with JX3). The Muddy is a better 1-stick climber given the cam cleat IMO. Tradeoffs.
You hit the nail on the head

Dang, this is nice to know. I am torn between the 3X below for single sticking:
  • buying muddys and adding double steps (or buy a modded one) $100 ish
  • buying S.O. stick $40
  • trying a DIY one $0 (from shop scrap pile)
I'm leaning toward DIY and making sure I can figure out the one stick thing.

I have both a single Muddy and a single SO stick that I have practiced 1-sticking with.

Winner in each category:
Ease of climbing: Muddy
Packability: Muddy
Cost to buy new: SO (because you can buy one)
Utility/Comfort at hunting height: SO
Noise: SO
Weight: Tie

Most important category to me...Utilty/Comfort at hunting height.

Advantage SO.

I do love these sticks as well, these days I mostly use SRT, but for places that I have no preset for SRT I'll either carry one (I have one set up with a cam lock) or carry four and my aider if it's close to the truck, If I like the tree and haven't busted it yet I may leave a paracord to use later for SRT.

After using them all with the JX3 Hybrid I like the Stacked Outdoors sticks the best. The top is like a platform and I feel much safer one stick climbing with it than I do with the Muddy

I have owned the following
Muddy pro’s
Modified helium’s
Beast sticks
Beast sticks hands down the best off the rack.
However I very much prefer DIY sticks with DanO’s double steps and now his new light weight stand offs. If you have access to a drill press I would suggest just building your own. They are going to run you almost as much as beast sticks in the end, but you can get them now. My sticks ended up 20” long. Pack super well and handle very easy in the tree.

How much does one stick weigh and do you have a photo of how they are stacked together?

Ok. Pick heavy post. 2 sets of sticks here. The ready to hunt is my set. 1/16” wall, spacers in the tube at the standoffs. Amsteel rope, stealth stripped, DanO’s standoffs and a gear tie. 1.61 lbs

Second set is for a buddy 1/8” wall tubes lone wolf standoffs. Still needs rope and stealth strips. 1.52 lbs.

And one last thing on stick builds. If you drill the 1/8” wall tubes every inch then there is really no weight savings between 1/8” and 1/16”. I guess you can see that from the previous post. And fellas I am a sales rep with a marketing degree. If I can do this anyone can. All the parts are available from @DanO.

Looks great onestringer. I agree DanOs parts are legit got all my parts yesterday and exceed my expectations on quality. Problem is he keeps adding cool stuff to his store and I’ve been placing multiple orders a week.

I am in the same boat as Nkilla12. I am torn on what sticks to get. I like the idea of the beast sticks and how light they are. But I haven't seen anyone that's been able to pack them with a fairly low profile. Then you got the heliums. They are lighter than most but you have to mod them. The mod isn't really that hard. I'm just torn on spending the money on the beast or save some and do the mod with the heliums

Ive only used the lone wolf sticks had them for 10 years. , they stack nice i can carry them on my back and get me up the tree. Ive wrapped them with friction/ hockey tape in places for climbing grip and to silence them.

I am using Heliums right now, but Dan has an order of beast sticks coming out in a few days if youd like to go that route. Your timing couldn't be better for them. But if that's what you want pay close attention everyday to the site cause they'll go quickly.

It's good to note that the new sticks are double the price of competitors....damn supply & demand :triumph:

I’m new here and still getting used to Helium’s always being favored. I suppose if you are running a saddle your weight is pretty light to begin with, and with single stick method that’s even more the case. When I was also carrying an M7 stand and sometimes a camera arm, give me the LWs over the Helium’s any day. Significantly lighter, and I think they handle better. I just added a double step here and there. I have Helium’s and never reach for them first, but don’t mind single steps.
