Camofire MR sale right now. Pop28 $197!!!

Is there a belt that’s more low profile? There only thing I dislike so far about my pop up 28 is how large and in charge the belt seems to be when not in use. I sometimes hunt climbers, hang ons, saddles, ground hunt. So I don’t always need it to carry a huge load.

I guess that'll depend on how you define profile.

The MR belt is the thickest of the bunch, the most "padded". The order there is MR, Exo, Kifaru and Seek Outside.

The MR is the most rigid to fold. The order is again MR, Exo, Kifaru and Seek Outside.

In terms of Heighth, the MR is narrowest from top to bottom. This is the problem I have with it. It doesn't cup the hip bones correctly as a result. You can cinch it down to ride on the crest, but the others distribute that weight more evenly on the hips and more comfortably imo. Some on Rokslide don't like the complexity of the four draw Seek belt but in my experience that feature offers some awesome fine tuning and adjustment.

I don't know about compatibility with the Popup, but there are some unpadded belts that provide a good hip ride, I have experience with the Kifaru EDC/Omni belt.

Hill People Gear's Recon belt boasts a thin single-ply foam, don't know if it would fit the Popup. (Their Prairie belt is their padded offering).

I’m just not a fan of those plastic wings on the sides. But the belt seems fine for me so far

I hated them too. I haven't cut them off...yet...but I have them disconnected and I'm not missing them at all with the Seek Outside belt, so they're on the chopping block. I want to try all my belts first.

I find the MR belt very comfortable for my body type, so if it ain’t broke…..

Of course if you love it as is, then keep it stock. I honestly can't say you (or anyone else) would like it better with something else and it's an extra expense.

But I will say that after trying a Kifaru Duplex Lite, Kuiu Pro Suspension and pack, and even a Kifaru X-Ray with EDC/Omni and Camelbak Motherlode....the MR is the worst belt of the lot to me.

If I hadn't swapped the belt, my Popup would have hit classifieds the week I received it. Instead, I'm taking it to the woods as my primary pack for my .5 setup and giving Popups to my brothers as gifts.

I'm hoping my comments present as a suggestion rather than advice, it's maybe a bit hard for me given how much of an improvement ditching the stock belt has been.

I made a thread to discuss the pop ups if any of y’all with experience could chime in. I was starting to have so many thoughts and questions I figured it may be worth having its own thread. Thanks

Know of any plain, floppy, thin, unpadded belts that’ll work? I don’t pack meat out.

REALLY crazy idea....how about a Kifaru Stryker bag on the PopUp Frame????? I'm seeing the bag only on sales for as low as 120ish used. Get the conversion straps from MR. I'm very intrigued by this combo. But then again....that's basically the price of a full MR Pintler or Kifaru pack....spending similar amount of money and trying to get something to work when I can just buy an original that meant to work together.

What do you gain? I guess you would gain some additional pals webbing but, I'm curious what you dislike so much about the 28 bag?

Dont dislike anything about it except for lack of organization. Really nothing to gain except a little more organization and that molle panel that served as the back shelf. Similar to what you had custom made. Honestly just brainstorming for fun. Until I have 1-2 season under it, I don't plan change anything. But I have noticed that the 28 bag cannot handle both my late season winter bib and coat easily. So for now only the bib go in bag and the coat nest in the shelf. So if I get to hunt in Jan, might be open to either adding more storage capability.

I am very happy with the pop-up belt personally but I think it comes down a lot to body type and waist circumference often. I have a 32 waist and I get a pretty full wrap around my torso.

Also is the waist belt ever an issue in the tree for anyone? It seems somewhat cumbersome when hanging.

the waist belt actually seems to help keep the pack positioned on the tree and usually hugs the trunk nicely once its set up. It is less cumbersome than I expected

The one strike against it, no matter the fit, is it doesn't pull tight as well as others. The forward pulls just seem to bind more, for whatever reason. I found myself having better luck adjusting it unbuckled, which shouldn't be the case.

Where are you finding these $120 Strykers? I'm curious if I'll like the shorter load shelf better on that than the XL.

On the popup, just disconnect the shelf and adjust the sliders. Works like a charm.

Rokslide classified. Someone just got one for 100TYD. I would of jumped on that if I had the money. But just the bags used are going for around $150, but I'm sure you can get that down 20-30 depending on the seller.

I’ll admit I agree with this. Cinching the waist belt down is more difficult on this pack.

Thanks. I'll keep an eye out for a deal. Spring is usually when I peruse over there. It's mostly out of curiosity anyway, but probably cheaper than some modifications I'm considering to improve the XL shelf's versatility across multiple setups.

Hmmm...I'm going to have to pay attention to this with my dad's new version. My old version pulls/tightens just as easily as the Duplex belt. Wonder if they switched buckles or if it loosens up with use?

The buckles are too far back in my opinion and are sitting right on the waist belt at the sides so it’s got a lot of friction on it. My kuiu bag for example, the buckles are toward the end of the waist belt, more forward, and they cinch like butter. You can’t tell from the picture of the kuiu but when it connects the adjusters are more forward.5F115B3D-9B47-445A-9655-0AB8E483DD86.png92C97477-6E39-42B8-B4FD-242AE5624966.jpeg

That may be why I haven't noticed it with my dad's pack. He bought the XL, the waist belt is technically way too big for me and him both but, there is enough adjustment that it does tighten down without bottoming out, there is just a lot of webbing belt left hanging when tight. This does however bring the buckles more forward.

I also like how there is slot so you can move the compression strap to the back of the bag instead of the front, incase you dont want to squash things in the pack if you are loading out. A simple capability, but a well thought out idea.
