Canoe vs Kayak

Agreed I have trolling motor on mine and it's great. Hauls 2 people, plus are equipment just fine. Can't wait to find out how it handles all that gear, plus 2 people and a monster buck!

I gotta replace the prop on my motor. Bought a new one a while back and promptly ran over it with the truck. Had the canoe out last week and paddled it over a mile back in a slough, would rather use the trolling motor. Lol

If forced to choose, I choose canoe. If I can have both, a 15-16’ canoe and the smallest kayak that you and your gear can fit in.

If you want to add a trolling motor, and your local government places a priority on people not being able to steal and sell boats, make sure you get a bill of sale with VIN or original production paperwork so you can register it. If you never plan on a motor don’t worry.

swedish canoe cart is the best thing since sliced bread to carry them.

if You hunt water deeper than knee deep ALWAYS, consider a lightweight Kevlar canoe. Portaging is a breeze when you can pick it up with one hand. Just don’t load it with your deer on land, and flip over in case it rains.

paddling a canoe is just good for your soul.

What does the water depth have to do with it?

fiberglass canoes and aluminum canoes are built to handle rivers and rocks and trees and stumps and what not. Kevlar is some strong stuff, but I would be pretty annoyed having to patch it or worry about it in shallow water.

I’m sure folks beat the hell out of them. But if I’m gonna go hard, gimme a beefy ole girl...

Did I mention Swedish canoe cart?

dead quiet, easy to use, goes in canoe with you if you want. Pull it walking or pull it with a bike.

this debate goes on for reasons I can't understand.

It is canoe all the way.
  1. Holds more weight
  2. weight is at the waterline, not above, so they are way more stable.
  3. more space for all your other gear
  4. lighter - you can easily carry it by yourself
  5. cheaper (lots of used canoes out there, and you don't need anything fancy)
  6. you can get laid in a canoe, not possible in a kayak...

this is from yesterday. You would never get that all into a kayak - period.

Is that a CLIMBER!

I used one once in the Adirondacks a few years back. Take a ratchet strap with you and not just a rope or a pull strap. they loosen a bit and come off easily until they "seat" themselves in the correct spot. past that if the canoe isn't loaded to the hilt it makes it easier for sure. With a deer in it or loaded with equipment that may be a different situation.
What does the ratchet strap do? I didn't really understand that.

You can also get it done in an inner tube. That’s how I got a son.

Yes, that is a climber. my partner just can't get his head around saddles. I actually BOUGHT him one, but it just hasn't taken.... So yes, I am still anchored to one of these damn things indirectly (thankfully only when I hunt with him)
I would gladly put it to use until he is ready.
