Catalyst Ion

Ion arrived. Definitely a cool stick! It seems to grab the tree well and sets really solid. My only criticism currently is the cam cleat used. I swapped the one they put on it with a schaeffer and it’s as good as it gets IMHO.

Pic?

What is wrong with the cam cleat it came with?

Mine came in today. I had about 8mins to put it on 3 trees.
I was not blow away, but I can see this being extremely useful for me in areas I won't want any sign that I've been there.
It's a ronstan cam cleat. So far I prefer Harken, but we'll see. I think it would set/bite better with a different rope that stretches a bit... the amsteel stretches none.
It's my son's 1st birthday and my daughter's preschool graduation is tonight so I'll have to play with this more another day.

Getting it set right takes some getting used to. A rope with more stretch I do not see as a answer at all tho. Little extra precaution getting the teeth on top and bottom engaged and a really hard yank down, it bites pretty well.

Quick climb and rapell. This is a cool setup. I've always used 6mm TRC or 6mm Sterling accessory cord for this applicarion with cam cleat. I'll have to get used to the amsteel. It's definately stronger than the ropes I've been using on my sticks.

Not to over simplify it, but it's a buckstep with a cam cleat that bites the tree better... with some additional features no doubt, which most I like.
