Converting Lifeline to tree tether & muddy rope style lineman belt.

Yes. I use that for my linemans. It's a bit stiffer which helps with throwing around the tree.
Thanks! I am just going to order that, a 12' section for the tether and a 10' section for the lineman. What knot should I use to make the loop for the tether, to hitch it to the tree? Just make the loop and use an overhand knot?

8 on a bight to make the eye, double overhand stopper for end of running end.

Look up DIY sportsman on YouTube. He has some real nice videos on DIY linman's and tether. Uses all the knots mentioned above. Additionally, I'm from SW Pa (mt Pleasant) and can help out. I also have a used set of Tethrd ropes that I can part with for $25 each. No shipping if you just pick up.

Thanks! That helps. I guess the only thing left to consider si ropeman 1's vs prusik knots.
I like to use the Distel hitch. None of the worries of the Rope man 1, easy to release, easy to tie. Cheaper too I would imagine.

Consider adding a tender to all of your friction hitches to be able to work them one handed.

Test and inspect your hitches and knots at ground level regularly.

Also the SWPA meetup is supposed to be in 3 weeks. It'll be a good chance to try a few saddles and learn some stuff before you buy, though that's going to add 3 weeks to your wait time if you wait until then to order.

Im down near the MD border. Somerset. I am getting a set of muddy pro sticks, I got a great deal lined up on a set of 4 brand new. I am going to look into everything else you typed! I thought I kind of had a handle on this but I guess not! Don't mind some research. Disclaimer I am on the larger side...6ft 2 245 on my lighter dayz

I'm not far from you. I live in MD just across the PA border near Addison. If you ever wanted to meet up I could show my current setup and give you some pointers.

Does anyone have suggestions on which cord to use to make a Distel hitch to use with an aider if I cut down a fresh bought muddy safe line?

I cut down a muddy safety line for my tether and linemans without a problem. I cut a 12' section for the tether and a 10' section for the linemans. Using figure-eight knots to make a 6" loop and a stopper knot you end up with a 10' tether and 8' linemans. DO NOT use a ropeman 1 with the muddy line as it is out of spec for the ropeman. I made my own beals and use schwabisch hitches with a tender. A schwabisch is basically half a prussic so it only grabs one direction. I can use my set up just as easily as a friend of mine that uses thicker climbing rope and a ropeman and mine packs down much smaller. If you do buy different rope I personally wouldn't buy it from tetherd as you're also paying for the name. DanO at Eastern Woods Outdoors has any rope that you'd need and for a much better price.
Same.. but i used figure 8 on a bite with a back up half hitch

Hello everyone,

I searched for a while on here but couldn't quite find the answers I was looking for. Newb from South West, PA.

I'm about to buy a saddle set up (tethered phantom saddle, predator platform). I was wondering if it was possible to convert the 30ft safety line I used with my lock on stand to a tree tether for saddle hunting (have found a few people saying this is ok) but my real question is will I be able to use a ropeman on it? I also have a muddy rope style lineman belt, would this be adequate or can I convert the excess safety line to a lineman belt?

I plan on getting the tethered linesman rope and tether eventually but am trying to lessen the initial hit on my wallet so I can get the saddle and start practicing shooting from it.

I am also planning on using the muddy pro sticks to get up the tree.

Thanks in advance for any advice y'all can give me
This is exactly what I did! Works great for me I have had no issues first year in my saddle as well hunting with Tethrd mantis and predator!

Im strongly considering going with a 50 ft or so piece of kernmantle rope. Use it as a tether, keep tag end in a dump pouch. Then i can rappel down with a madrock, gri gri, or beal birdie.. then there is never any slack in the system, much safer descent.. and will be using a rope rated for about 6000 lbs.. bonus you can get it on ebay new for less than 50 dollars

That's a good set up. I bought 40 ft of 9mm sterling from Dan O because it's in spec for my birdie. I'd take a birdie over a gri gri or a mad rock I think. Tetherds big SYS haulers hold that much rope no problem, if you went with 8mm you would save a few ounces and it would pack smaller yet. If you get a hand ascender and a foot loop you can also SRT with that system with paracord presets or a throwball. I typically single stick into wolf trees one time and SRT thereafter. In combo with a LWHC seat as a platform and to climb straight trees it's a really dynamic set up.
