Custom Platform Suggestions

TaeHas, looks like you’re off to a good start. I would be concerned about traction on the platform surface. Any plans to add texture, such as by coating with truck bed liner or something?

I’m planning to do a coating of some sort, but haven’t decided what yet, bed liner is a good idea. I am also planning to put notches/grooves around the outer edge corner. Thanks

1” punch with a 1 1/8” bottom die worked well to give plenty of tread. A little unravel with a few burs that I will have to knock down, but overall great result. Also warped the plate slightly but again that a non-issue and will straighten it out a little when I bend the lip.

I would go as big as you can on the angle. I didnt find the scout was enough to keep my feet from hurting and i was changing my foot position constantly. Ended up selling it. But everybody is different.

Thank you for the input, I’m going to do 3” at ~ 20degrees but I’m also gonna be able to change the lvl of the main part of the platform so if flat with the small lip isn’t working I’m gonna drop the whole thing to an angle. I’m also going to make a second platform that will be smaller, about 8” long with a permanat angle.

Someone else mentioned adding traction/friction, especially to the angled surface. I can see how the design would add comfort but also be a safety concern, particularly on wet days or with muddy boots. A slip could have major consequences. Good luck with your project. Happy hunting and be safe.

Thanks for the input. I do plan to knock down any of the spots that are a cause for concern and may also add a bed liner or other coating to it. I’m hoping between all that the chance of a slip or injury from a knee or shin on the platform will be minimal. Also hope my saddle does it’s job and keeps me above the platform.

Still Need to add the Versa Button. Rather than properly heating to bend it. I tried to cold bend it slowly and put a crack in it so ended up cutting and welding the desired front lip. Haven’t added the leveling screw and I decided I’m going to try it out without the leveling screw and can always add it on later, the main platform will sit at ~20degrees as is. Pleased with how it’s coming together. 68593F15-136F-4E4F-B84C-522E688DDA74.jpeg

Preliminary testing was a success just using a ratchet strap around the top. 06A4C16F-F982-484F-82EA-AD28E850CAC9.jpeg

I have decided to leave off the leveling screw I like the angle that it sits at without it so there’s no need to complicate it. Made a versa button out of a hardened bolt a bushing and some washers.

After my initial sit I will say the lip on the front doesn’t do much, it was rare that I stood that far out on the platform some added comfort when on the edge but really not needed. I think the lip would be more effective if the platform was shorter.

A bump for those who have been there, done that!

My personal favorite is Mopar’s modding an $300 Ambush.

Nice work fellas.
